Hey guys, I want a bit more top speed. However, I'll mostly be running on grass, so I still want a good amount of torque. I've got an upgraded CY 30.5cc motor in my DBXL now with the stock gearing 20/60 I believe it is? I'm wondering if I should just get the Losi 21T pinion or the DGI 22T or 23T? or run the DGI combo 22T/59. I have the upgraded FID fuel tank, so no issues with running bigger gears. The gears are insanely expensive, so I want to get it right the first time.

thanks,

Hmm... why didn't the 22/59 work? Mesh problems? Were they both DGI branded? Also, why wouldn't a larger pinion give me more top end? My understanding is you can either go bigger Pinion or smaller spur or both to get a higher top speed or more top end. smaller pinion and/or larger spur will decrease top speed and increase torque.

The case hits center driveshaft trying to get the 59 to mesh properly. You stand correct, gearing has always confused me...had to look at my bookmarked pages lol

And no, dgi spur gear with vertigo pinion

Actually didn't think of that. I noticed even with my stock gearing I have a bit of wear on the side of my motor housing where the tip of the dog bone pin on my center shaft hits it. I changed the pin to a slightly longer one (meaty bones pins) so the tip is rubbing against it. That's a pretty silly combo to sell then. Why does DGI even make the 22/59 combo then? I guess I'm stuck with just upping the pinion size. I'm thinking either 22T or 23T with the stock gears then.

Thanks for the feedback. That made my choices much easier. Less work since I won't have to pull the center diff.

The 5ive platform is a decent bit heavier then the dbxl. And yes I mean pounds. Jumping up to a 22 or 23 will flat out kill the bottom end on a 30.5cc. With my g320, now after porting, I'm considering the 23. Never went past the 20 when it was stock, w/8k clutch springs.
@Jshaff16 I wondered if that smaller spur would work out. I had to grind a notch in my case for the stock 19 pinny.

@Bryan K. I think that the 21 would give you a good all around gear. I hate to say get the 22 or 23 and loose all your bottom end. It is rather subjective though. Especially depending on what clutch spring you have, and what ,if any ,porting has been done to your top end. If its ported I'd get the 22, and run the 8k spring, so it get a bit of breath before it takes off. Jmo
