My Rovan Baja 5b, even with the pipe on, makes a racket, so I invested in a silencer. I bolted it on, as per instructions, but in the process of heavy off-road running, it fell off, and kept falling off. I decided that I'd best weld it onto the pipe.
But I couldn't find a welder to do such a job. I decided to use "JB Weld" (that 2-part epoxy). It held for a few months and then the joint began to fail.
I took the silencer off, cleaned the area of the join, and jammed the silencer on once again. And again, I wrapped the join with heat resistant aluminum tape. I then got "SteelStick" (pictured), made a join (pictured), and tapered the join with a file. (Of course the next step is spray paint it black to match the rest of the exhaust.)
Now, to the reason for this post: I know that this will give me a few months before the heat from the pipe causes the joint between silencer and pipe to fail.
What do you guys recommend for a permanent bond short of a traditional weld job?
