To try to make this quick,

Buggy has been sitting....oh....5-7 YEARS. Not sure why I stopped messing with it, my interests just changed. Now that most things related to bang bang type stuff is hard to find, I cleaned off my reloading bench and sat this big buggy on the table and started to do a once over. Tossed the carb in a sonic cleaner, there just has to be gook in there. The pull starter I got to retract again. Battery on order, did not even give it a try. And that brings us to the gas tank.....full of well sludge. Green sludge.....I am guessing it is the two stroke oil leftover after all the gas just evaporated away.

Any ideas on how to clean the gas tank.

don't use acetone it has a nasty habit of being really hard on plastics.
I guess mineral spirits would work decent enough. Honestly cant spend too much time cleaning a tank when the don't cost an arm and a leg new.

I would try mineral spirits and a hand full of small nuts and bolts for some abrasiveness to break it up.
