Could coil on plug ignition be a new future for us

So since we're on ignitions now...can anybody elaborate on the red race 2 setup that ddm has? Ive been tempted numerous times but the hunt for power needs to be realistic expectations and im not so sure the red race gives more power as it claims
 
I think there's something to them just never big here in USA. Lot's of guys compare the extra performance to having a well made lightened flywheel but if you dig back to the Renbar and Woody days, you'll find people claiming they added good power.
 
You can mess with your timing as much as you want to now, just toss the flywheel key. It's only there to set timing in the first place. I run half my saws with no key, or a ground out key slot (in the case of the saws with cast in keys)
 
O yea i read the thread @Z.hb71 I get it theres more ways to make more power with 300 bucks

Depending on the sitch there may not be. For example I think I vaguely remember it was the 23cc race guys who ran them over there. They have to run stock motors but ignition was not on the stock list I believe.

So in that case no that $300 is well spent.
 
You guys gotta realize that different engine respond differently to timing changes. Between, porting, static compression, altitude, fuel type, and ambient temps you can jump the timing up a good bit, or even have to retard it for max performance. Theres really no one number for them all. Plus the smaller cc higher revving engines will typically see better gains from more advanced timing. Just have to keep it conservative enough to allow easy starting. That's one of the biggest down sides to fixed timing. Your trying to get best overall performance. Not ideal for top end but good enough to start the engine and get good performance at the same time. I'd wager a small amount that most of our engines could take a few more degrees advance and be non the worse for it.
