I decided to get myself the locked centre spool and a shiny centre diff mount etc.

I got this diff mount.......

Having an absolute nightmare fitting the diff mount tho, if I get the bottom screws in I can't get the top cap on visa versa, even when trying to help matters by releasing the bottom threads to get a little wiggle room etc, also tried releasing ALL the screws to minimum thread to get extra wiggle room ??

I have fully checked and re-built the assembly multiple times, paying careful attention to the bearings and making sure they are fully seated, I also tried to fit without driveshafts in place in case it was restricting movement slightly.

Must have spent a solid 3hrs on this now, not a mechanical moron but simply out of ideas now ? I am hoping I have missed something obvious.

Did you try to assemble it in your hand first? Out of the rig
Yup, goes together like butter, it seems there is a tiny twist or something meaning you can only get one end done up else the opposite side won't line up with the holes properly ? I just wondered if I was missing something obvious, it is after all my first time fitting such a thing on the 5ive.

I had a turtle racing version of the billet tower so I'm not sure of yours exactly but you did notice that the tower can only go together one way right? Also there is a "rear" and "front" to the tower in relation to where it sits on the chassis plate

Pretty sure I see what you did wrong. You need to walk the top plate down as 1 you can't tighten 1 side and then the other. It has to go down all at once in slow turns on each screw and yes you'll feel as if it gets bound up but it will drop down

Yeah, there is the front and rear uprights, and each end has its own bearing to set the correct clearance on the cups, double checked and re-assembled all that twice, putting the wrong bearing at the wrong end is very obvious, you can't even get the pin into the cup to secure to spool if the wrong bearing is that end.......I was hopeful it was something simple like that as well, sadly it seems not.

I mean there is only a few parts to this, I am really struggling to understand where it went wrong tbh ?

This was something I tried to do as well sadly :(

If you look at the uprights and top cap it has recessed cups to help locate, this makes it really tough to drawn the sides into line by equally screwing the cap down, it seems like it is "in position" or not, with little between :(

They to loosen the screws from the bottom of the chassis also. I have faith in you getting it right. Just be patient and once you cross every bridge but until then have patience

My patience is wearing thin after several hours trying to fit something that should be so simple :D

I have ever screw/bolt loose as it can be atm, I will try some different tactics tomorrow, failing that I might have to send it back I guess, maybe its warped / not milled straight in production or something ?

I wonder if that diff spool is causing you grief, there's no more room to come closer on the spur side and the back is hard to see if it can come in more. Can you see if it goes together with the stock center diff?

Starting to wonder if I even have mine in the right way around, hopefully it really is something that simple :D

Getting late here, will have a crack at this tomorrow morning, thanks Rep :)

I stand corrected I had a modified rc center diff tower as well .... I guess that's what I was trying to ask you but I didn't doubt you could of put in the wrong way round.. tomorrow is a new day with now frustration. Let us know how you do

just to add to rep and monsters replies mate, make
check the spur is fully seated on the spool,
and also just try bolting the carrier up on the chassis without the spool in to test fit it, if it bolts up fine without the spool in,
then either a bearing seating issue, one end plate wrong or a spool length problem (y)
you can see in yer pic that plates aint sat square against the spur gear, bigger gap at top than at bottom,

Some great ideas up there thanks :)

The screws are long atm as I planned to fit lock nuts on the back, then replace with the correct length :D

I will run through some of the call outs above later, thanks :)
He could have one of the mounts flipped? Looks like they face right way in photos.
This one I checked and I am 100% certain they are correct, they have little recess's on the back for the lock nuts you use to hold the brakes in, at least that is one possibility I can cross off in this uncertain world :D
