I was looking at getting the crazy stu intake pipe system, the one that puts the air filter infront of the motor, but i'm basically looking for a way to have that without buying the uber RC air filter as i already have a ram air air filter laying around (the same one that taylor RC sells) that i want to use, i have also heard mixed reviews on the uber RC filter. If anyone has an alternatives to suggest that would be good to hear.

thanks ollie

just get full kit with filter mate (y),
its always good to have a spare filter in yer parts box,
i've heard the same misxed reviews about the filter as well, but maybe thats from people not oiling em properly,
uber do say they only recommend there own filter oil for there filters,
also pretty sure i read (cant find it now though) that the uber filter is actually made by ram, or it could have been piper ,

Yeah spare filter ain’t a bad thing I suppose, suppose it could be how people are oiling it but don’t see how you can do it wrong. The other thing is that their oil at least comparatively isn’t cheap £3.50 for the little bottle and you use the whole thing to do the filter. when I can buy a litre bottle of motorex foam filter oil for 12 pound from one of my mates
if you just want to relocate and use a filter you already have. maybe look at the Turtle racing air box?
Did look at that but it seems a lot of weight hanging off the two carb bolts but maybe I’m being over concerned

yeh uber oil is very expensive for what you get, but i think uber filter has a cotton element between the foam so they say there oil is developed for that ,
you could always get the kit then fit your ram filter and then sell on the uber filter with the oil that comes with it,

That’s what I’m thinking I’ll do

I have the Taylor intake with the Ram air filter an I am pretty happy with it. The only one issue is it impinges on the primer bulb just a bit, but not a deal breaker.

It relocates the filter, I was a little worried about how it would stand up to the way I run. I have thoroughly durability tested it. 🤣 Many roll overs and end over end flips with no issues.

Just my opinion, if your not completely set on the Uber set up.

I’m running the turtle setup and hpi filter. Seems good so far. I like how it makes so much more room for access to the carb. I did a light coat of grease around the I-ring before I assembled it.

Try Detroit performance, they might break it down for you, and your right the crazy stu air filter itself is not good quality imo.

Could probably use the filter setup from the Losi dbxl 2.0, it moves the filter in front of the engine too
Absolutely not. The design is poor and uses multiple foam elements layered like a cake with one foam element around the outside. Ive seen it in person and I had the filter assembly off the engine and there was debris inside the intake along with scratches on the piston. Terrible design all around.

Ok good to know, I haven’t personally seen one yet
I was thinking of getting one for my 5ive but will look at other options

I'm using the same thing. The pancake-style one is more efficient, but it hits the inner cage, so I feel the danger when the car collapses.
