As many of you know, I picked up a Cy GP290 for my MT from DDM. Did you guys know, the stock CY clutch housing is not compatible with the FG motor mounts? It's NOT! Right now I have the motor in all jacked up and it is kicking the piss out of my gears and bearings so I need to replace the housing.
After dealing with DDM's website (which I hate, but I like his prices) I couldn't find the correct housing... Or any information on what one I Could use.

So, I took a trip over to bigboys toys n hobbies (their site sucks too) but I found online FG manuals With part numbers!! Every single engine they list for sale says "Must use pt#8345 to be used in fg" Guess what the number stands for? Yup the correct clutch case number. (It would be nice if DDM did this too)

So, I go back over to Dave's and type in the search box "8345 clutch case" and I get about 356,289 different fricken items!!! Let's see... There were about 15 different baja 5t's!!! (what the hell does that have to do with the search??!) 6000 different motor combos and every other damn thing you could think of!! I hate that damn site!!!

Sorry about the female dog fest! It just gets annoying after awhile...

So, after another 1/2 hour of playing with the search box I finally came up with this.. http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl?c=885035&sc=12&category=&search=08345

Here is what I found at big boys.. http://www.bigboystoysandhobbies.com/inc/sdetail/7770

OK, can anybody tell me what the difference is between the $27. and the $11.???

I also want to get a higher/stiffer clutch spring, should I get the 8000rpm baja spring? For some reason it comes with 2 springs in a package? I only need one.. lol Or does someone have a better suggestion? I don't want to blow the drivetrain out of my truck.

Thanks,
Trip..

Trip..I knew the cases were different ..for zenoah and cy...but wasn't sure why the difference.........ok I got it now the engine mounts...
...As for the springs 8,ooo red spring...Hell I have broken 3 of them...
I found out you need to scrape the paint off..the hooks back to the main spring..to fit correct in the shoes....spend 11 buck buy the DDM permum spring......my next clutch will be a LB 4 shoe....Can't help ya on the cost difference......AKASlawhammer

OK, I think I will pick up the 11 dollar spring. Like I said, hell I all I need is one! lol.. I don't know what rpm this cy spring grabs at, but it is WAY lower than the stock Zen spring. This thing just barely comes off idle and the clutch is grabbing! :censored:

Trip..I have the DDM perm spring waiting to go in next....It is claimed to be 7,000 rpm spring....Youe engine is ball park 6,000rpm stock.....Like I said I have broken 3 red springs all ready...maybe caused by on/off throtle to much or just quick snap WOT..
Don't know but They break...maybe just me...Best to you...SLawhammer

cy case....

dam thats a bummer..

strange,i did use a cy clutch case on my zen before,i think i made it fit but i had difficultys ..

i have one but thread gone on one end of it,wouldnt make much of differnce though,i could send it to you but i suppose what we would pay to ship it would hardly pay us.... lol

Trip have you tried reversing the clutch shoes to see if this helps at all, people say it gives a more agressive pickup like having the 8000rpm spring, although I haven't tried it myself.

Also I though the case just needed the edge or something ground off to fit an MT?

There is actually quite a bit of machining that goes into the Zen housing... I am going to swap my old zen housing with my CY today and I am going to go back to the old clutch and spring that came with the M/T, I'll try putting the shoes on backward. I have heard about this too, so I'll see what happens.

OK, got it all torn apart, switched around and put all back together correctly! I thought originally there was a lot of machining done to Zen's housing... There isn't... Just 2 small cuts made with a 1" or 25mm end mill. I guarantee these 2 cuts were made in about 45 seconds in a cnc. (I know because I run one at work)

I posted a link at the top of this thread asking what the difference is... The case for $27. has the 2 small cuts and the $11. doesn't. So anybody getting ready to buy a brand new CY motor you will need the clutch case with the machined surfaces. FG part number 8345. If you don't already have a zenoah case. The standard CY clutch case it WILL NOT fit correctly in your FG truck.

Here's the difference side by side. The case on the left is the CY.

glad you got it worked out. did you order a spring yet? i would go with a 7k for you. the 8k might be too much and creat excesive wheel spin but i have always run the 8k and like it. i have also put them in everything i have and will own. i have never broking any eather. but they are a bear to get in

I took it out for a test run, WOW what a difference! I am using the stock Zen clutch spring, and I put the shoes on backwards.(Thanks Ducky)

Now it revs up considerably higher (like it did stock) and snaps out of the hole!! No wheelies because the tires won't hook on the cold cement, it starts to lift them up about 4-5 inches in the air, but the tires instantly spin and kicks all sideways!

When I pulled the clutch apart, I checked the tension of the 2 clutch springs, huge difference. I would say about 15-20 pounds different. That CY spring was like pulling on a rubber band..

It's supposed to be 60 here tomorrow, so I will be out playing for sure!!

A special thanks goes out to DC2, for the link of "How to rebuild a 23cc" With out that link I would never figured out how to pull the clutch mount off.
Thanks to Bigger The Better, for the nifty little clutch spring trick, "It just takes a click" I could see myself fighting with Vicegrips on that one!! lol
Thanks to Slawhammer and Ducky too!

Thanks guys,
I owe ya'll a beer!

Trip...good to hear you got it going...Now get those wheel toed up and you should be fine..
I would get the DDM Prem clutch spring..just to have ..you may need it on a sunday..
Best to you..Slawhammer

cheers trip

good that link came in handy for someone lol

good to see it worked out for you, damm i never knew that putting clutch spring on backwards could make that differnce, must do same now myself with mine on this rebuild.

i always suffer that low down bog,and find it trying to get up in the mornings aswell

You will have to use the Zenoah clutch bracket,(what the shoes bolt to) the CY wont let the shoes sit backward, but be sure to put your spring on correctly. If you have a CY spring, open the front door and throw it as far away from your truck as you can!!!

I think if you can hold on to both hooks of the spring and stretch it with your bare hands, then the spring is a piece of poop!! I don't know, maybe I am just Manly! lol
