Okay, so I'm having a tough time as a newcomer to the large-scale side of the hobby, and I thought it would do me some good to make an account and seek some peer advice.

Roughly a week and a half ago, I got myself a 30 Degree North DTT-7V2. I followed all the requisite steps to get the engine running, but it never even pretended to start. I took it to two different hobby shops that weren't able to get it started either, and I decided to just replace the stock engine completely.

I got a brand-new Zenoah G320RC as well as the appropriate clutch housing for the DTT-7V2. When I reassembled the clutch to reinstall the engine, I reused the clutch bell and carrier that came with the stock engine. To my frustration, I found out that the stock clutch bell carrier is just a few millimeters too short, causing it to bind tightly against the clutch shoes and effectively turn the engine into a direct-drive system. Naturally, this isn't what I was going for.

Long story short, here's my question: Are there any clutch housing/carrier combos that will both fit my truck and offer enough clearance for the clutch bell to spin freely when the clutch isn't engaged? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Roughly a week and a half ago,
Well there's your problem. Those motors they come with are only good for 1 week. You got an expired engine.

As Sling Blade said "It ain't got no gas in it"

All kidding aside, Welcome to LSF. If you put your location in your signature there might be a member just down the street from you to help out.

This issue does sound fairly similar to what I'm going through at this time, yes. I tried using the CY clutch plate and mounting bolt that came with the stock engine on my Zenoah instead, but I could feel the crankshaft complaining about the foreign bolt so I decided to abandon that idea just as soon as I began trying it out.

As such, I believe I may have no choice but to use the Zenoah clutch plate despite the height it adds. I have a Vertigo clutch housing and bell carrier coming in the mail tomorrow, as well as a Vertigo bell and pinion. My hope is that those will all fit appropriately. If the Vertigo parts don't work out, then I may have to either cannibalize some washers off a few extra M5 screws I have laying around and use them as improvised shims, or simply throw in the towel completely.

Can we see some pictures to see what's going on. 30dnt trucks follow either v1 or 2.0 losi 5ives so no not the same issue as kraken. Since you have a 2.0 based clone you will need to follow all 2.0 style mounting. Zenoah flywheel cover, g320rc clutch housing should be it but pics of the issue will help.

Doesn't the v2 have that goofy one piece center housing? Feel like we've had someone posting about issues with that set up. Think his solution was getting the center diff housing etc, for a losi 2.0. Not certain is that applies here or not.

Yea Sean I think the issue is that 1 piece center, idk if they went with the 2.0 design where the zenoah is a drop in fitment with all zen stuff or is it the case of putting a zen in a v1 5ive and you have to use a Cy flywheel cover.

This is what things look like, or at least as much as I can convey without video. The clutch bell carrier is not quite tall enough to support the bell without a slight gap being present, and torquing it down forces the bell against the clutch, rendering both parts incapable of moving independently. If either the clutch housing or carrier had another couple millimeters of metal to them, there would be no issue fitment-wise.

Ok so it is 2.0 based, looking at the last picture the clutch bell carrier looks warped? Sorry if I missed or forgot but did you get this as a roller or complete? If it had an engine what style Clutch holder was on the other engine?

Also I do not believe your pinion gear is down all the way, loosen it and make sure it's in the slot, push against the bell and tighten. I've done this before and it pushes the bell towards the clutch. Its hard to tell but definitely check that it's seated.

It's 2.0-based, yes. I got this truck as a complete RTR unit. The carrier isn't warped, it's simply tilted to one side in order to better display the gap. That photo was taken with the other side of the carrier properly touching the clutch housing. Basically, the clutch bell and carrier teeter on top of the clutch instead of sitting freely on the clutch housing.

I'll attempt to tighten the pinion further tomorrow, since it's the end of my night here. Additionally, I have the new clutch housing/carrier/bell/pinion from Vertigo Performance coming in the mail. If I'm lucky, they'll all fit together seamlessly, being both for the 2.0 platform and from the same manufacturer.

All I need to do now is figure out how to start the thing 😅

Since I'm a total newbie, I've never been shown how to start a fifth-scale engine. I've watched many videos on the topic, and I've copied them as exactly as possible, but success seems to evade me. I'm considering taking a trip to a local hobby shop tomorrow to see if they can clue me in on what I may or may not be doing correctly, or just coaching me through the process.
