Duratrax CY23. Is this a unique engine?

CY is a clone of Zenoah. Almost all the looks are the same except for the clutch housing I believe. The type of plating and materials is different but still a good product just more failures then Zen.
All parts will work when it comes to head kits and such except you will need to change a few items for them to be installed. When time comes it is easy to install a head kit and make it more powerful.
1st step is a tuned pipe. From there I would go with a head upgrade.

Thanks. I saw one on ebay for $100 new and I got a little concerned seeing as how inexpensive that is. Good for a cheap replacement, bad if its a cheaply made engine.

Out of curiosity, was that the 29cc? If so that is the one with the most plating issues of all the CY's. The plating is the inside of the cylinder that the ring runs on. When it fails it flakes off like skin, then takes out the ring, piston and top end.:(
My neighbor had me install one on his HPI Baja. He is still going with about 2 gallons on it. Some last forever some don't make it past a gallon.

Good all around CY engine..I like the CY26cc...that engine ..really revs to the moon
put a good tune pipe on that engine and your off..having fun....Slawhammer

Are those like low, mid, or top of the line engines?

When the time comes you will be ready to take on a head kit. If your engine is in good shape and you want more power out of it the best overall bang for your buck is a head kit. If you were to swap out a head to make the same motors above, with your bottom end, here is the savings:

Here is another great favorite: Oniell Brothers Racing

23CC - You would never go back to it.
27CC - $49.00
29CC - $89.00

I would recommend when the time comes to swap out to a Zenoah top end. Just maybe they will have a new line of top ends out. If not a 27.2cc head kit would be great.

27.2cc - $149.00
You would need to change out a couple additional bearing parts but overall it would cost an additional $5.00.

It looks identical to what is in my FHMT.

Looker: How can you tell it is no good? I'm no engine expert by any means, especially by just looking at the outside of it in a slightly blurry pic.

If it's built like the one in that picture than I would say yes. If it's a true CY style 2 bolt head engine, it's fine & upgradeable.

I was just wondering if you saw something funny about it. Good to warn people if there is something strange about an auction and with this one because there really isn't anything proving it is from a Firehammer. So it's a buy at your own risk I think.

I have messed with every kind of these engines & if the crank case half & the clutch housing are one piece, as that one in the picture is. This is a China engine That would be in a Smartech style vehicle, could be in Firwehammers too now, I don't know. I do know Smartech is the parent company that makes these. They are sold under Duratrax, Carson, Smartech, XTM. All the same. The porting in the china engines is not real good & the carbs. are complete crap. Most of these style engines have a strange 3 bolt head, but some don't.
