Losi 5ive B tank vent leaking

As stated. Leaking even if partial tank just from sloshing back and forth. Even engine off and cold. Is this a common issue with this style vent? Is there a different tank you guys recommend, to eliminate this part, that has a vented cap? I may stuff an Echo chainsaw filter in that hole if it fits. Lol

I have those tanks on my v1 5ives and luckily I've yet to run into that issue. If you want to swap tanks and be done with it you can use a 5ive-t 2.0 tank or go the cheaper route and get a 30dnt tank from fearless rc. I've used the 30dnt tanks before with no negative results, also your issue is most likely that rubber grommet.

Thanks for the info. I was suspecting the grommet as well as the valve. I’ve seen the cheap valves fail on saws and other ope so that was first on my radar.

I noticed another thing tonight, as I was going over it for storage, after today's run. All the axle and shock boots are cracking and starting to separate. this car might have a gallon of fuel through it. Stored inside an unheated garage on a stand. Almost like they dry rotted. I assembled the kit two years ago.

I have a bunch here for the axles but no shocks. I was expecting them to get damage from use before just fallng apart. I'm going to try full force rc boots for the shocks. I thought about running no axle boots but they are cheaper than worn out CVDs.

I think I'm going to get into RC boats. Cleaner, less moving parts and in 3 years there will be a private 14 acre lake in walking distance from our property. Our neighbors got approved for a big sand mining operation and my wife and I are the only ones with permission to be on it. They already are all about the Rc boat idea. Lol.

I think my patience level has decreased with age. It might be time for a transition to onroad, water, and brushless rc.
 
Go electric with the rc boats, I did the whole gas boat thing and it was a pain tbh. Electric boats are fast out of the gate and gas boats to be fast you need to know what your doing and have patience. Gas boats run great on land but when their in the water the game changes, that's where I learned the whole carb pop off pressure was critical.

That sounds like exactly what I need then because im old , sore and cranky. Lol. Less dicking around, more play time.
 
Anyone had this happen? Is there a better location for this kill switch? It looks like the vibration from that battery distorted the switch. It still functions currently. No sign of this being caused by heat. The switch was mounted with servo tape and I had stick on foam "bumpers" on it to try and isolate it.

I think the added weight and inertia of the NiMh battery became a battering ram, overcame the foam and beat it's azz into submission. I'll order another just in case. I'll be removing this one and sealing it up and revising my foam protection situation. Ffs there is always some little thing taking a shìt. I miss crawling. Lol. I can see my future rc will be air, water, crawling and maybe asphalt.
 
Yeah they take a beating.
My battery appears to be a little smaller so that is a plus if anything.

I love crawling myself. My son and I will go out and wander around the woods for hours. We have some pretty good areas close to home.

Air = I sucked at that , more than one in the trees.
Water = never tried that
Asphalt = Heck yeah , we do a lot of nitro on it , and it is a little less on equipment. Well most of the time anyway.

Soon I'll have easy acess to the water without the cry baby public to complain.

Flying...I'm getting a GPS helicopter. The training wheels on those make them easy to fly from anything I've read or watched. I have one picked out but I keep buying saws instead. lol.

As to crawling, its been my favorite for many years. I'm holding out for a 1/6 capra style rig or an affordable tube chassis for the axial scx6. I'm getting tired of waiting though and a Honcho might be in my near future.

I've only had one large scale gasser on road car. It was a Bergonzoni 2 wheel drive, wicked fast and nearly undrivable with my skills at that time. I didn’t keep it long. I need a change in the rc hobby for sure. I'm even kicking around either selling the 5ive B and the 100's of $$$ in spare oem and aftermarket parts, or converting it to onroad. Idk. On the fence currently.
 
Well guys, I think I'm off the rag now. Lol. The cvd boots at the wheels are the only dry rotted parts on the drive train. The center shafts are like new. Has to be a different material. Anyway, I've had a rough year, as @smokinwheel knows, and this thing just sent me off into a bîtch tizzy. Turns out they were gravy to change. I'll order more soon as DDM is open as well as the shock covers. I'm not putting the oem rubber trash back on the shocks. Till next crisis...

I was going to offer to fix it for you but it likely would have gotten lost in the return shipment so glad you didn't set it on fire.

No matter what it is, walk away and come back in 15min as your mind will be in a different plain of thinking.

I see what you were planning there mister...lol

I was imagining all the set screws stripping in the axles causing me significant grief, but that wasn't the case. It literally took almost as long to get the wheels off as it did swapping out the boots. I guess I've forgotten that the bigger toys have bigger fasteners.

Well glad that you got it out of your system. Hate to see you throw in the towel, I would be pissed at you if you were a quitter. LOL
For a guy that does so much with the combustion engine side of things I couldn't see you going electric. Maybe for some stuff ( crawling for example) electric is the way to go but giving up on burning dino juice is like............ well; becoming a vegetarian. Sure, it is OK to have a salad with your steak but eating just salad doesn't cut it.

Good that you are getting back to being yourself!

Thanks bud. Next time I'll just call you. My rc therapist. Lol. The 5ive stays here, as gas and as a dirt machine. Really, outside of these little things, it has been the most durable off-road gasser I've owned so far.

Converting it to battery power might be the other V word...

Who stores their cars outside year around? By outside I mean in garages or sheds without heat or AC. I wonder if doing that has contributed to the rubber boots deteriorating. We get temps in the mid 90's and dewpoints in the high 60's - 70's during summer. In winter we can see below zero. Sometimes as low as 15 below. I'm bringing mine into my hobby room this year for winter for the first time. With the pipe removed and a rubber stopper in the header, there appears to be no smell.
