I stripped one of my counter sunk screws a while back, I cut slots in it with now luck, long story short, I ended up cutting the counter sunk head off and doing a # on the chassis at the same time. I now us a button head screw instead of a counter sunk and use a very good wrench on the screws, also a good screw will make a difference.

Hey Greg...to set the gear mesh...take off the bracket on top of the diff...
loosen the 4 bolt that hold the engine to the chassie.....take a peace of typing paper
say 4x4 square....fold in half...put in between the transfer gear and diff gear....
slide the engine back and tighten up the engine bolts....pull out the paper....
that should set the gear mesh..put the bracket back on top of the diff.....Slawhammer

use the spacer if possiable...go with the 14 tooth gear....
post up a picture..before you tighten the grub screws..lets see what you got there..
maybe we can help ya more for alingment...slawhammer
Ps I have made the transfer gear flush with the end of the lay shaft....I have added a shim behind the spur gear carrier..
spacing needed.......You need to use that thick spacer on the layshaft behind the engine mount bearing..to keep the 14 tooth
gear from rubbing on the engine mount.....
