I purchased a gen1 Race Runner off ebay a couple of weeks ago, from a member known in here as Monaroman, great bloke to deal with. I received the item within a few days after payment. I will be transforming her to a stadium, I'd just like to document my progress in here.

This is my NEW secondhand MCD.

It's pretty much stock except for the rear suspensions....I can definitely see her potential though.

This is her first transformation...

I have currently given her, tall front shock tower with taller all alloy shocks and FG stadium wheels for now.

Waiting for metal gears now and dreading the cutting of carbon fiber. :)

Turned the front bumper to a rear exhaust guard, I will be fabricating a NYLON front bumper, something that will absorb shock and flex back.

Servo tray cut in carbon fiber 3mm thick...a very time consuming process.

These gears better be woth it.....at near $200.00USD a set including shipping.
The mesh between gear A and B is very tigh at the moment, but it should loosen up after a tank.

Yep, there's heaps of flex at the moment, cabon upper decks should help stiffen it up, I may just use the stock rollcage, or I'll fabricate a custom one...Fuel cap is from powerslide, I got a tank vent through the rubber grommet. I finished my carbon fiber cutting today.

Unless you got lots of time...don't attempt cutting carbon...I rushed mine, it's a very delicate operation. i should have just purchased alloys and my truck would be finished by now.

Is CF brittle when cut. Do you have to keep water running on it when you are cutting it?

CF is really hard to manipulate and work with, Apparently it's worst than asbestos, so at first I didn't take any chances...I had a full disposable coveralls and P2 dust mask, rubber gloves and full face mask . Cutting, filing and drilling while spraying mist with a water bottle is not an easy task. In the end it's taken so long, I got lazy and lazier....I just had the water bottle and no safety gear, using the breath slow and squint method.

Upper deck pillars/posts, 12mm diameter solid nylon 6

Finished cutting my carbon plates, not the most accurate, but will do much better than the stock plastics.

Carbon Upper decks installed, a few small adjustments and holes for the servo wires and she's all good to go.

Quite the transformation to the beast. should be rock solid by the time you get to run it. and making your own stuff is more gratifying if it works out. I think the carbon looks awesome on there, better than alloy would. should stiffen the front end really good. you have many mounting points. and any scratches you can just give it a quick sand and spray with a clear coat

I find cf is easy to cut with the right discs. I use large discs for the main cuts. the stock dremmel discs are too weenie. princess auto has these big tough discs about 2 inches I use. if you buy the diamond disc set (same size disc as dremmel but larger screw) it holds these monster discs. I have accidentally set a book down on these discs and not broken them. cuts carbon like butter. a friend makes sheets so I make a lot of parts with basic hand tools (ya BTB I sometimes cut the servo holes too wide ;) )

we made carbon kevlar once... now that was hard to cut... why only once hehe. made one set of parts for my 8th scale and that was enough. too bad as the red and black looked so sharp.
