Remote kill switch.....

I got one off Jack RC on ebay, and bought a 3 channel Ansmann 2.4ghz radio setup to use it with and it all works perfectly. I think sometimes it is down to the radio system you are using ?????

I have only ever had one runaway nitro but that was bad enough.
The thought of my Baja doing the same is NOT GOOD!!! I feel much safer now with the kill switch. Hopefully I will never have to use it in anger, but if I need to , its there:clown:

You're not butting in mate its an open forum :clown: The more info we can share from each others experiences the better :cool2:
So with this particular kill switch, if your switch flicked off or battery wire came loose you would have a run away as your fail safe wouldnt work either?? Is that right??

no it wont start if not powered up i have tried this when running turn car off it stops the only thing it wont do is turn off when handset is turned off its not a mega problem it still feels 200% safer than running without one might just be handset sanwa gemini was a top handset in its day one of the top ones but its not in its day any more theres much better out there now but i wanted one years ago couldnt afford one but found one on ebay a while back does everything the new ones do exept turn my bloody engine off

I have a standard '3rd channel' kill switch running off a spekky Rx with built in failsafe on all channels, it kills then engine when:

RX power loss
TX power oss
Signal lost
Low Rx battery
I flick 3rd channel

Can't start the engine without TX and RX power and 3rd channel in correct place. I can't think of any eventuality that isn't covered, but as a few have said above, it depends on your radio kit and you many not be able to get everything covered.

Incidentally, I want to use my 3rd channel for a reversed 2nd servo, but can't because then I won't have anywhere for the kill switch. I can't replace it with a '2channel' kill switch either because the spekky has a failsafe that will over-ride it. Because of this I think i'm going to end up with some odd linkage route for the front brakes, or may sell both of my hitec 645MG and get a single savox 20kg.

Killer Bee have brought out a kill switch for the spekky mate :cool2:

ya killer made a 2 chnl for the specky that takes the onboard failsafe into account. it plugs into the steering channel with a Y harness, and you have to shut off the TX to kill the motor, it doesn't work as a channel activated unit. but it would certainly work as you need it and free up the 3rd chnle for your other servo.

He has made the 2ch one for spek now huh? I have a v2 that is for non failsafe types here.

another tip. put a mini deans plug inline on the wire from switch to kill switch. if you need to start the rc without any power on, or to trouble shoot you can unplug the kill switch

thanks guys, that's going to make my life way simpler, esp the plug idea pipe, should help in testing it all (and waiting impatiently for a new kill switch to arrive).

looks like the V2S will work on any active channel. It looks to see the channel go to a failsafe position, and stay there for 5s before it kills then engine (brakes would already be on because of the failsafe. I wouldn't say it's a a full runaway prevention device, but sounds like it is better than nothing.

another idea, put kill switch on 3rd channel with brake servo, and set the failsave to knock the kill switch out. BUT then set the 3rd channel end point to never reach this in normal running and set the linkage to suit. Ergo, I turn the Tx off, Rx goes to failsafe, and instant engine kill. (this should work because endoints, expo etc are calculated in the Tx, failsafe position is set by the Rx). I'll have a crack at this tonight to see if it's possible to set up.

<Edit> nope, can't do that on DX3s as can't mix the thottle and the aux channel. I've just put my picoswitch on the remote start button, press to kill or switch off tx to kill, or go out of range to kill.
since this means I can't reverse the 2nd brake servo without stuffing another thing in my already full radio box, i'm going to replace the existing throttle/brake with a 20kgcm or 25kgcm servo.

yeah that works well i just got a pair of tamiya battery plugs and done it that waysaves hassle when removing engine fault finding ect
