Well after some hard research I have come to the fact I think I am going to get (at some point) the FG monster. I am still on the fence with the 5T, though.

Here is the problem, I know what I can get with the 5T because of the amount of them in the shops. So no real confusing here.

Now with the FG, most shop in my area arent carring any in there shop because of, hard to get? Well after talking with the people at Davesmoter they answered some of the questions. But I have more.

With the FG
If you order the competition, do you get all the hop up parts? muffler, metal gears, kill switch etc...
If it doesn't come with those, what are the extras you need?
What are the best sevos and remote to fit this truck?
Is there advantage from the 4X4 truck to the competition?
Or with just some back yard bashing is 2 wheel enough?
Are these 2 speed or not. Is there advantage in having 2 speed in the 2 wheel or 4 wheel. Or is it more problems than one wants?

It is kind of tough to deside without really seeing them in action. Since I am new to the gas I am looking for some great inside info:helpsmilie:

Also at the hobby shop last week they had a used FG in there. I was banging around the idea of trading my savage in on it but with the price I got, a new 2 wheeler isnt that far off and that one had some questions with it,,,like

tires were/seemed to be flat. Is that normal? compared to the 5T (with pretty firm tires) I thought that was odd or is it normal? Saleman told me that they are like that and they ballon up to 3/4 of an inch. Also one of the axels was chewed up a bit because of the metal gears on the driver side. I guess it was a bad jump or is this a problem?

I live in the Twin Cities metro area of Minnesota so anybody in the area willing to give me a crash course on these would be met with a very big smile and very pleasent person:)

Also anybody with some ideas, advice, knowledge of any kind, or anyone that went though the gut wrenching, excitment filled process of getting into this awesome hobby give me any ideas:)

hi, I cant answer all your question but ill tell you what I know, im sure other people here can jump in and answer what I can anyway.

firstly I run the FG MT standard RWD model. ive run over 20 tanks and other than a couple of spur gears and breaking an aftermarket pipe my has help up awesome, so if strength and durability is important I highly recomend anything from the FG range.

I don't know a great deal about the comp range but I believe it has many alloy upgrades over the standard range like suspension mounts and swing arms and uprights, I also think the spur and layshaft gears are alloy. It also has an alloy diff I believe.

The comp is a single speed.

I don't think there is a comp 2WD only 4WD.

Servos are a matter of preference, I personally recomend the hitec 5755 for steering, one is enough which is all im running but if you can afford 2 go for it.

You will need to buy and fit your own kill switch.

Radio again is a matter of preference. 2.4 ghz is a must, I run a spektrum DX3S as it has on board telemetry but it has never faulted me and even though they are expensive I highly recomend them. Also the Futaba 3PK is very popular.

HPI parts are easy to source and depending on your location FG is just as easy with the huge number of online sellers these days. Considering you live in the states id be confident you could get parts for the FG overnight by ordering online.

Soft tyres is how the FG comes, its a monster truck the soft tyres help with big jumps and allows side wall flex which can also help with traction.

The vehicles you are interested in will handle very different to each other, if you can try them both and make your decision.

The competition is all alloy and includes the fg tuned pipe. it is not the best pipe but for overall performance it is pretty good. The kill switch is not included with any vehicle fg, hpi, or any other.

You have options for servos, you need a 1/4 scale metal geared servo for teh steering, only 1 is necessary. Your options that we recommend are:
Hitec 805MG good
Hitec 5745MG better
Multiplex Rhino better

nothing more than I hitec 645mg or comparable is needed for the steering even with cable brakes. If you go with hydro brakes, you will need a third servo.

THe regular 4x4 is all plastic, the competition is all alloy and includes the pipe, cable or hydro brakes, and some other hop-ups besides the alloy.

The 2 speed is an option for both of them, it does not come standard on any model.

Hope this helps, if you need more help or recommendations, just shoot me a pm.

I used to live in Minnesota. RC Car Kings is a great resource for FG's. I purchased my first though them years ago and they even did all my custom painting for cheap. Great work and great people.
I haven't talked to them in a long time but know they are still in business.

rccarkings.com in they're site.

Want to see a vid of an FG in action... Here is mine

My FG chassis has gone through 17 gallons of fuel, 3 steering servos, 2 throttle servos, 2 receiver packs and 2 engines all while the motors were piped... The only things I have broken is a rear diff, a front upright screw, and an out drive cup! Every other part is still stock on my truck! These trucks are built like tanks! I have no fear to jump my 30 pound truck 15 feet in the air... Land it correctly and she comes back for more!

I don't know anything about the Baja's, I love my FG too much to make the switch. Yes, my truck handles like a shopping cart and it has less suspension travel than a Power Wheels, but it flat out rocks to see a 30 pound truck carry the front wheels for 100+ feet.

Other than my wife's Mutilator, nothing can touch my FG in a parking lot. I have passed Baja's with the front tires in the air!

Now in dirt, that is a whole different story. Anything with 4wd will smoke my FG! (a 4wd conversion is in the works for my truck!)

I guess it depends on what you want. The FG is an outdated design from the 90's, I love it, but it is outdated. The Baja is something new that is cutting edge and has a far superior suspension design.

I have driven a couple Baja's, but I have never owned one. But you have to realize, there is a couple reasons why I never bought one... Cost and performance! If I am going to puke up $1,200-$1,400 it had better be 4wd!

4wd that opens up a whole different category...

Just my opinion...
