 after blowing my rear tyre on my 1/5 buggy i thought id try making a replacement using a 3 inch wide mountainbike front tyre......it works great!!!
firstly glue the foam inner to the rim with contact adhesive then cut the sidewalls out of a wide mtb tyre and then cut to length (so each end meets evenly.) cover inside of tyre with contact adhesive and same on outer of the foam wait 5 minutes then carefully and evenly roll the wheel and foam inner onto the inside of the mtb tyre..wrap tightly with gaffa tape for an hour then remove and tie some thin wire around the tyre on each outside edge between the knobs!! my car has now got great traction in the dirt,it really digs in, and it costs a fraction of buying new!!(and lasts longer!) takes half an hour to do 2 tyres (plus drying time)try it 4 urself!

il post a pic ova the next day or so!! theres another benefit too... you get 4 tyres out of 1 bike tyre!!...so far theyve lasted 3 tanks of juice, outlasting lotsa other parts!!damn xrc!!

Any news on the tires?
How are they holding up?
Just blew my LAST set of HPI tires,I will not buy another tire from them for the Baja.
Same side, every time, HPI said there is NO PROBLEMS with the tires because they have the new black foam...BS!!!
Ill try this and other options from now on.

yeah they are sweet!!still going strong, just make sure you glue them really well!! they are fun on the road too you can get some mad drifting happening.....and less rollovers because they slide instead of biting in and flipping the buggy.... watchout on the gravel though, they throw rocks a long way!!!!!i can safely say they have easily outlasted my FIRST and LAST set of "factory tyres"and i cant see any sign of them peeling off, even if they did,its simple to reglue them....chat to ur mountainbiking mates and grab all their old tyres!seriously, you wont look back!!:2guns:

Very happy so far I got to run abit with the new tires on.
I also used the wire wrap, I think its needed.
So far no seperation and no problems.. Other than all the shredded grass and rocks flying around.:)
The tire was $35.

yeah the wrap is very necessary due to the centrifugal forces on the tyre.If there is a way of "welding" the join, you could do away with the wire...i guess you could stretch rubber o rings over the wheelinstead of wire..or even use bands made from bike innertube....hmmmmmm.....:detective:
