Needed a new string trimmer and this beauty was cheap at the pawn shop.20200604_110541.webp
Ran it for a few hours today and im quite intrigued by its possible rc use. Just going off sound id say its only spinning at 6-8k rpm, but the low end grunt was amazing. I was bush hoggin with this bad boy. I think it could make for a cool rc engine.

Hmm someone else has mentioned these a few times.....?. Any who. The things to look out for with these. (We use the string trimmers, brush cutters, and blowers at work all 4 mix) first off these things are notes to carbon up badly. Even on a good synthetic oil. The stihl hp ultra was introduced because of this. We were basically told by the dealer if we don't use the hp ultra they wouldnt do any warranty work. High test pump gas is a must. Pir newest fs 131r overheats and pings on regular gas. (Yes I mean sounds like its gonna blow up) and its max go earned rpm is 9500. As far as I know all the aftermarket coils kept this feature for some reason. And the 34ish cc version weighs in at 12lbs, so not the lightest.
But. Now we can supercharge an engine for rc. ?? also the 131r makes 1.9hp..

Saw chaps jack arse. I was cutting a bamboo patch down. Didnt look up to see a branch hung up in the bamboo. I cut branch fell and git the saw. Fortunately for me when it hit the saw, the chin break kicked in and I had just come off throttle. It still left me with a nasty gash on my calf. I learned a few things that day. First a stocked first aid kit is great. (The one in the truck wasnt) look up (rookie mistake on my part) and make sure your phone is charged.
It was just a flesh wound and theres barely a scar left. But I learned my lesson. Wear your ppe.
