So I don’t want to get into too much trouble haha, but here is a pic of the new Losi 5ivet 3.0 brushless.

Made the big car electric power mistake once with dbxle...... never again......corporate spy or insider Mr Duffy, just kidding. Looks interesting but me and big battery's just don't get along, especially if forced to buy a brand because of connectors........traxxas or spectrum power......

I order my batteries with the connectors I want. I cut off the traxxas / spektrum plugs from the esc and solder on what I use.

That said, I wouldn't buy a brushless large scale that was traditionally a gasser. The run times are not great based on anyone I've talked to with them. 10 minutes +/-.

Xmax / XRT owners claim 25 minute or more with large packs. I've ran my Redcat vigilante 23 minutes on a pair of brand new 9500 SMC packs the very first run without hitting low voltage cut off. I stopped because the pot metal pinion stripped, just like a traxxas lol. I expect to surpass 25 minutes after they have a few cycles on them.

Agreed....l too get 1/2 hour out of a set of traxass batteries in my xmaxx. Don't get me wrong, it is convenient to be able to get a package, charger, batteries in one box like the xmaxx setup.Very easy to use . I'm just not a batteries expert.....with my dbxle bought batteries and charger recommend by hobby shop........my bad. Didn't do the research.....batteries didn't fit and had to buy/modify trays.Charge times close to 2 hours for 10 minutes run time. More like a job than fun and not to talk bad about dbxle but to much money and mods even though it was bad ass when done but could have bought 2 5ts for what I had into it. Was running the smc batteries but even they never went more than 10 minutes before heating up with stock gears. Very tempted to do electric raminator but just don't have the confidence to burn up the cash.....

I'm largely an electric guy, so I actually think this looks pretty good. Plus, Losi is obviously trying to target the largest possible market here (and keep the required accoutrements within their parent brands portfolio)... so electric makes sense.

Don't get me wrong, I think a gas version would be great... and hopefully something we might see as a future release?

Personally I wish they would release it as a kit. Again, I "get" that they want to keep everyone trapped in the Horizon Hobby ecosystem, but when I look the the 3.0 price, my mind immediately starts to add up what the costs would be to pull the spectrum guts and convert it to more "enthusiast" level/brand organs.

Regardless, I think ANY large scale release is likely a good thing for this segment of the hobby.

Yep well stated and a kit that could be gas or electrical ? Just had a look at it. Parts interchange with 2.0 is my question. Rc driver utube video, just watched.....thing is a beast on 12s. Survived a good crash. If the tires and shocks fit a 2.0 I'd stick em on my truck!!!!! Looks like losi did their homework on it .

From what I learned, dedicated battery platform...... parts in manual, some listed as 5t...all. Others 5t 3.0 only. Wheels and tires will fit all. I don't think losi feels like they can compete with clones but l would not hesitate to buy a 3.0 gasser.

I think the big thing for 1/5 scale rigs is just running 12S if you’re into electric.

All else equal:
12S (2×6S 9000mAh): ~44.4V × 9Ah ≈ 400Wh
8S (2×4S 9000mAh): ~29.6V × 9Ah ≈ 266Wh

So you’re basically getting ~50% more energy, so in theory ~50% more runtime (real-world a bit less depending on how hard you drive it).

I’m getting like 30–45 mins on 12S, which seems pretty solid for a big rig.

Im running a 560KV motor which probably helps too vs something higher KV like 800KV, since it’s less stressed at the same gearing.

Also, I’m using mechanical brakes, which is probably just marginal gains, but it definitely helps keep temps down. I don’t even run a motor fan and it barely gets warm.

If I could get run times like that out of a truck that big, id probably go brushless. You are the first one I've read claiming longer than 10-12 minutes. Short run times for battery rigs are why I stayed with nitro and gas exclusively for years sans crawlers.

Top view of the 5T E 3.0 ctr diff -That looks like some brake cam holes to me...
Unleash the gasser!!! Let's go!!!

I am very tempted after watching videos but want to see it in person first. I just don't see a gas one because of down the center drive train layout. I still remember going to buy the super baja rey truck, just loved the solid rear,i.r.s front , but as soon as l saw the 5t 2.0 next to it plans changed real fast. If l could only figure out how to stuff a raminator rear axle under my 5t.......
