I bought a FG in April and now it is September and I love it like it is the first day out with it.

I have run about 2 gallons of fuel threw the truck and now I have a few question about it. Since I will be layed off this winter I figured I would take it apart and really get to know the machine.

Here is some questions

I seem to have to rev it up quite abit before the clutch engages. What adjustment or part should be added/replaced?

There is at times abit of spitting and sputtering I am thinking maybe some bad gas but is there anything else I should look for?

Brakes, exhaust and maybe some alum to add to it. Alum upper arms in the rear, the stock ones seem to be getting abit thinner:)

I would also wondering any ideas about handling and performance that could be addressed?

Not looking to break the bank but should have some extra to throw around at the machine. Brakes and exhaust are already budgeted for but have some extra for other things to help out.

Any ideas would be nice and very helpfull.

Did I say I love this machine, man selling my savage was tough at the time but man I don't miss the headache. Though I do miss the sure jumping ability of the savage and 4 wheel was nice but the FG sure can go through things:D After 2 gallons of fuel I still have the same shell but abit damaged. I figured I would trash that but I must be getting the hang of the thing. maintance is so easy on this just like any small engine. I get my extra things within reason from my local hardware store or small engine shop and for alot less money.

might have a high rpm clutch spring in it. if it does to allow it to enguage earlier got a 6,00rpm one and/or switch the clutch shoes around so they are facing the wrong way, allot of people say they get better bite this way.

not sure about the spitting, could be a heap of things, bad fuel, carby setting etc. with all two stroke motors you get blow back, only a reed valve will stop this, get some fresh fuel and check again.

stock brakes are crap, i hear changing to steel disc and fibre pads improve, make sure you got a good strong throttle servo and check your linkages to make sure there isnt too much slop.

Exhaust I would recomend either the dom for outright power or my personal choice the jetpro v2 which is quiter, still heaps of power and much more solid.

alum main things to go for are alloy engine mounts which are a must and a steel spur gear. FG plastics are prolly the best out there so don't go changing unless you want bling factor coz most of the time the plastics take a better beating than alloy parts.

handling wise if your running tractor tyres change them, i think the Nutech TB2 wheels/tires are best and very cheap.

Hope this helps

Thanks alot sperera, I was also thinking the jet pro. I believe that is a direct fit, isnt it.

Brakes are needed and a wheelie bar. Yes I will have to upgrade my throttle servo for the brakes and pipe which will be fine with me.

I was looking at rear upper arms for my metal spur seems to chew into the arm when hitting a few jumps. Try to elimate some machine flexing.

I like the tractor tires but I know they may not be the best for handling.

Once again thank you for the advice, I have a notebook right next to the computer so I can add to my to-do-list:):):)

Adjust the idle screw up a bit to make it more responsive off the mark and also that way you don't waste the throttle travel on your servo. Jackobyte did a neat mod to brace the rear arms to stop them hitting the spur & it worked quite well. From memory it was threaded bar & rose joints but send him a PM & he will point you in the right direction.
Uprating the shocks or maybe just changing the grade of the oil will improve handling as will anti roll bars.
The spluttering is probably the tuning being out but could also be a dirty air filter or spark plug on its way out.

If you are giving it a full strip down, put a straight edge along the chassis & check its true. If not give it some gentle persuasion :hammer::hammer:

+1 Sper on the FG plastics - they are very durable and I have only broke a front upright in 18months of bashing. Ally adds bling but also adds weight so you need more power just to cope with the extra weight.

Oh and the mesh mods to the engine would be a good idea whilst you have it stripped down. This stops grass, leaves and general shite from clogging up your flywheel and any related over heating problems.
