Hello guys,

I have been building a new large scale project.

BAJA SRT4 100cc gasoline twin cylinder 2-stroke 1/4 scale

Basics:
- Wheelbase currently 600mm (23.62 inches)
- Overall length with Ford Escort body 960mm (37.8 inches)
- Track width (adjustable between 480 - 550mm (18.9 - 21.65 inches)
- Weight 19,9kg in full driving condition with body on and full tank of gasoline
- Four wheel drive
- 3 silicon filled differentials, rear, center, front, aluminum diff housings (Limited slip diffs available)
- front and rear sway bars with metal Uniball link ends
- front and rear disc brakes with longitudinal adjustable brake arm
- independent suspension on all corners
- layout with much resemblence to 1/8 offroad cars
- 5mm thick aluminum chassis plate
- Weight balance 49% on front axle, 51% on rear axle

- Engine 100cc aviation twin cylinder flat two stroke engine modified for car use, selfmade twin exhaust, 22mm Walbro carburator, adjustable CDI ignition, stock power 10,2hp
- engine is now ported and piped, new power target is estimated to be around 15-20hp
- Arkansas 3-shoe clutch made for BZM 50cc engine, adjustable
- Self-made starter "system" (same style as old English outboard marine motors)
- Carburator and air cleaner are the only parts above the top level of the tires, very low center of gravity
- Targeted max speed 100 km/h @ 10.000 rpms

- Modified primary gears to have direct drive from clutch gear to center differential (90 degree center diff gears eliminated = less power loss)
- Fully adjustable silicon shocks with ajustable shock mounts, vertical wheel travel 100mm with current track width, 140mm with widest adjustable track width
- 750ml fuel tank, 4% premium gasoline with Elf Competition 2-stroke oil
- Jumbo (Hitec, Rhino) servos on both steering and throttle/brake
- 4600 Mah battery
- Extra large 4-stage airfilter
- Aluminum wheels, Baja 5T
- Hostile MXTs, ice spikes (64 pcs / one tire)
- Futaba 4PK transmitter

I still have the paintjob to think about. Otherwize fully ready for testing. This car would be VERY easy for mass production. Wink wink if someone is interested

What do you guys think?

OMG! This looks so damn cool. I know you were working on a 60cc BZM some time back, but this is really awesome! Right from the chassis work all the way to the body is really stunning. Very clean work. Looking forward in seeing the performance. Pls post videos of your test drive..

I will post vids once I'm done with testing.

And I'm still working on the Baja with a BZM. The all new 2-speed gearbox has taken much more time than anticipated. But it is in the works and will also be completed.

Great work, the only thing youare going to have problems with is,it looks like you are using nutech drive hubs and dog bones, those will not hold up under all that power, including the diffs,i broke many sets on my tb2,with a built 30.5,anyways good luck and lets see some videos.

They are not Nutech parts but I agree with you. I have a solution to to this already but first I want to see how much these parts can withstand.

Love that Escort shell. Will it fit a Baja and are they for sale?.

The Mk1 Escort shell is made especially for Baja 5B&5T. The wheelbase of the body is 600mm for the scale appearance which is 30mm longer than Baja's WB. So you can either use a stock chassis or a longer version and cut the wheel openings accordingly. The flares have enough surface to cover both ways.

As for body width you can use any stock offset wheel and tire combo WITH axle extenders and the wheels will still fit inside. It's a tight fit that way but it will fit. I did it. You just have to have patience while trimming the wheel openings to your liking. But I'm sure everybody here knows that.

I had a stock chassis with extenders first in use. But because I always want to have too much power in my cars then the longer chassis provided more stability so I switched into that.

I am the international contact for Escort shells as my friend who manufactures them does not speak a word of English. The body mold is now under some detail updates and we have sold every last one of them so far. But once the mold has got the updates then we will make a new batch of bodies again according to requests and few extra for ourselves. Currently there are roughly 50 Escort bodies around the world. Main focus area is in Europe but we have sent few much further away than that too.

In the initial pictures of this thread you can see how the body fits with 600mm wheelbase car.

Here's a pic how it looks like on my Baja 5B with axle extenders and stock length chassis.

Absolutely fantastic!:w00t: I wanted one of the escort shells a few years back but unfortunately out of my price range:(
How much will the finished 100cc be?
What type of tyres are the ones with the studs/spikes and where did you get the spikes.
Great project.
J.

"How much will the finished 100cc be?"

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking now. Are you asking me the price if this model goes into mass production some day or you want to buy this one or what? Or you are asking only about the engine?

As for spikes I use standard 2.4x15mm wood screws. I drill holes from outside to in and then screw them from inside out. Massive traction. Kold Kutters cannot even be compared the same week or year. Traction on snow is much better than traction on sand or dirt with any tire available without spikes.

I was asking ,when the finished prototype(the one you are building now) is finished, will it be up for sale and if so,how much.

Oh,how much are the shells now for the standard baja.

Two project photos. First one is about grille cutouts (vent holes) to supply cleaner and cooler airstream to carburetor and cylinders. Second one is for show; bigger brushed aluminum exhaust tips [:D]

To be completely honest I haven't much thought about the price of this car. I need to do that. I cannot answer your question just right now.

About the Escort shells; the price with shipping within central Europe is 245 Eur. 285 Eur to USA. Currently we are sold out and the mold is under updates.

I don't have much knowledge of FG but if the diameter is right and overall length and stroke then I don't see why you could not use this shocks. They are Nutech parts.

You need to take measurements.

Grille made out of aluminum, this is what it looks like on the body:

And here's the grille I made painted to match the original style:
