Looking forward to seeing the finished body ! I painted a couple bodies, and they do come out really nice if you have the patients. Not too involved to get creative with tape and come up with some pretty cool looking designs.

Had to do some running around after work with the wife so I didnt get anything done to it yet. Other then getting the masking tape out. Going to be a righteous ball ache.

If your painting in side this is best done with the wife away. Stuff stinks. Got the lower body line taped up. First time using this surface prep spray. Supposed to eliminate the need to scrub the crap out of the body before painting. Well see how it works. This is getting gloss black, so no real deal breaker if it looks like crap down there.
The set up. I already had the air dryer and dessicant so may as well use them. Regulator is a bit flaky but should do fine.
Gloss black it done. Give it till tomorrow. Peel back the tape I need peeled back. Re tape a bit and shoot the bumpers.

Decided to dive back in and paint the bumpers.
Really hard to say just how good the mirror chrome comes out after it's been backed. As with a lot of spaz stix paint, the layers need built up to look right. 6 thin coats of the mirror chrome. Then I used the ultimate black backer over the mirror chrome and the high gloss black. The outer protective film is still on the shell and makes it look a tad dill, but wow it's great in person. Very happy with it.20210216_191114.jpg20210216_192030.jpg20210216_192038.jpg20210216_194316.jpg
Candy apple red to follow, the front of the truck will get backed with silver metallic faded into high gloss black backer. I think it should look decent when its done if I can get it right. But that will be after I lay down the candy apple red coat first. As a note for anyone that cares. I'm using a 0.3mm tip so far. For the red I'll be swapping up to a 0.5mm tip, mainly because it's such a larger surface to cover, and this paint drys very very fast, so I want to get it covered quickly to avoid dry looking spots.

I'm wondering how that candy apple would look backed by the chrome. Think it would give a shinny effect? I've played with painting iridescents over the spray chrome and that looked fantastic! Just curious if the same affect would pull thru.

don't know, not using the chrome to back the candy apply. See if I have a piece of lexan laying around and try it. There are a lot of effects you can do with the translucent paints, depending on how many coats and how they are backed.

Quick update cought royal hell, but got the red coat on tonight. I'll get pics up tomorrow. Turned out ok. The airbrush didnt put paint out fast enough to cover without dry spots, so I did what every responsible painter does, went and grabbed the hvlp and had at it. Turned out ok. May have to wait for a warm day to finish it, or a day the wife isnt home.

Man that looks great and you're just getting started. I wish I had the skill and patients to try a nice paint job but I got minimal patients, and I know how it would end up....

The candy coats are very very hard to see till you get a lot of paint on. This is nearly 2 full bottles of the red paint, and I think it should have had another 3 coats or so. Just for reference the air brush ready bottles come with 2 oz in them. I would guess there about 3.75 oz on the truck. I shot the silver backer as well as gloss black to back that. Going to let that dry then shoot the ultimate black backer over the gloss. Then its goo time.

Paints done. Got a few spots I messed up on, didnt have one of the coats on heavy enough and more of the black came through then what I would have liked, but not bad for my first multi stage paint job. Quite happy with it.
