I will eventually be sanding this down and redoing it, but it's pretty much ready to drive for now... I got 6 coats of clear on though

These shocks are just too sweet. and Here they are with the balloon springs. I have them mounted up but I need to get the aluminum rear upper arms as the springs foul on the plastic upper.... so wide.

Hey Pipe..was wondering if you would have to get alloy upper arms?when you said
ballon springs...you may have to get the up right extenders as well...you will need too
have shorter turn tuckles..31 mm in length.....That should make it all work then....
Looks good...You can dermal the Fg or Fh plastic upper arm a bit to make work for now..
Your project is coming together quite nicely..Slawhammer

ya, I was looking and python has the cnr uppers for $40, so probably go that route. They are a tight fit in front too. I just realized these shocks are GPM. Pretty nice shocks for GPM stuff. I had to drill out the shock tower holes for a bit larger bolt . I need some thicker shock oil than what is in there. Now just waiting for my carb shaft from ddm and it's ready to roll other than putting a couple servos in.

yeah you are going to need at least 50 weight in the rear shocks for oil.....
as to the carb shaft..waste of time to rebuild a carb...most carb body holes are worn
so shaft will wobble....cheap enough to replace carb for $35 to $45 Bucks USD
just my opinion here....I have in the past rebuild carb...just cheaper in the long run to replace twice a year...same with fuel lines & Clunker...never worry about fuel system
always new..with no hassles.....Again just my opinions.....Slawhammer

carb was fine, but the screw in the end of the shaft was snapped off, where the linkage pivot connects. I tried to get it out but no way. I was going to design a cable hook up on the other side of the carb but decided for $4 I'd just buy a new shaft. I sold the mt the motor went into and just pulled the carb off the vw since I was waiting for parts..

now I have to get the dremmel out and hack some more body out as it still hits the pipe. been putting it off. one reason is I just finally got the fibreglass fibres out of my work jacket lol. I don't want to be itchy yet. I might hack some first with the big ole rasp file, then clean it up with the dremmel sander

and I will try dremmelling the upper arm for now. I am using some short gearing sho have lots of flex room

I had to dremmel a litle more body to fit the pipe and I swapped the rear spring in from the semi (put the ballon spring on semi) and no more binding now

You should be able to flop the arm over....you will have to use limit straps then for the lower arm.....Looks good for the cut out on exhaust....I love those victory Pipes...
Get it tuned up....lookin good....Slawhammer

I will eventually have all FG arms when I go 4wd and I can put the balloon springs back. if you wanted a set to play with I could send you some down.

I also want to change the way the undertray is mounted to make it easier to remove. I am finding it makes working on it a lot tougher as I have to remove so much stuff to work on it

Yup..that's why when I did the beetle shel..I was looking at a under tray....
thought no way too much hassle for any repairs that may need to be done...
I have the body with out fenders...the quote Baja race look...as too the real cars....
Oh cool that would be great...On the coil springs...Been looking for 4 of them
to make mt car stiffer in the rear end......Too much weight & off balance for the FHMT chassie........You still have a fine lookin beetle...Slawhammer

shoot me your address again Roger. I have a pair of the long chrome ones and shorter black ones here. I can send either 2 or 4 down. I still want to buy some of your other stuff so we can work it out later. I am pretty happy with the blue springs on back...

if you don't like the springs, you can toss them in the box of stuff I am buying from you hehe. it's all good. hmmm I wonder if fg front knuckles will fit the redcat rally...

well after waiting for parts, I get my steering rod ends and I got bloody 8mm ends sent. I have a ton of those... so rather than wait, off to the hardware store I went... grabbed 3 feet of threaded rod and cutting my own steering rods. $2.49 later.... after I cut the rod and get them adjusted, I am going to cut some aluminum tube to put over the threads. it'll look good and really beefy compared to stock

now these are some beefy steering rods... on the carbon plate under brake cables is the stock one. it's ready to go, just need a receiver now
