Cold, wet, windy St Helens, U.K.
No news to regular contributors and readers that I've been in sunny (now occasionally wet as the rainy season has started - coinciding with the team's return I suppose!!) MEXICO !

I've a couple of private flights I'm planning, so in paying off the credit card, I added a little extra, nowhere near enough, but to take the HIT out of the flights purchases.

The travel agent gets back to me - doesn't help with the 6-hours' time differential - and says the purchase was refused / blocked by the credit card company.
No great surprise - it's happened before for larger purchases, simply requiring 'validation' of the purchase amount from the Bank's fraud department.

I try calling the bank international contact number - normally I deal on the internet, but an instant reply was required - using Skype, but the connection was inadequate.
My only option was to make an international call to a British '0870-' (read expensive) number using the company Crackberry.
DAMN, was I sent around the houses; this department, that department .... and finally to Card Fraud ...
"Month, Year of birth please?" OK
"When did you start this card account?" - Good question - sorted - 21 years' ago!!
"How much did you pay in your last payment?" OK
"Why did you pay back more than you owed?" !!!:mad::mad::mad:
I'm thinking 'YOU'RE TELLING ME YOU FECKERS BLOCKED MY PAYMENT BECAUSE I GAVE YOU MORE THAN I OWED - CHEEKY SODS!! - JUST LOOKING FOR BANK CHARGES'
I actually say 'Could you explain please?'
"You never put a credit card into credit Sir" "It's not permitted"
KINELL !!!!!!
'Can you please confirm it is now unblocked and that the purchase may be permitted'
"Yes Sir, no problem".

FECK ME !!! :mad::mad::mad::(:(:(:mad::mad::mad:
Unbebloodylievable !!

Another day at the orifice !!

You couldnt script it bud. Credit card companies are scum. They suck you in with low interest rates then when you get any sort of reasonable balance they up the rate to make it more difficult for you to clear the balance. When you do clear the balance they hound you with phone calls asking why you are not using the card :cursing: Barclaycard owe me a fiver - think I will be asking for a cheque next time they ring up.

Thats another thing that pisses me off with em.......you get a statement & pay the amount in full & forget about it thinking it is clear. Then the next months statement sneaks in & you don't take much notice of it assuming the balance is zero but from the time the original statement was printed to the time it lands on your doorstep you have accrued more interest & if like me you thought otherwise they slap a £12 late payment on you for the 97p interest you missed paying :2guns:

I know.
Fortunately I have a (pretty wild !!) sense of humour and managed to stay calm - one of those Immigration Desk moments we all have when entering any country when some sort of question hits a nerve, but you have to bite your lip, to 'achieve objective' !!!

I'll see tomorrow if it did go through - fun and games !!

There's some breaking news higher up in the Forum with the SC trucks coming out .... mmmmmmmmmmm DAMN !!:lol::lol:

My girlfriend works for a big card company, and all you say and more is true. They make their money from laying charges and interest on people, so the rules are intentionally complex.

I always pay mine off by automatic direct-debit so the buggers can't get me.

Worst thing is though, if you don't have a card or don't use one regularly then it actually hurts your credit score!

blardy hell, fancy stopping a payment like that because it was in credit! fark that pisses me off, can only imagine how pissed off you must have been and still probably are!

:mad::mad:don,t get me started with banks and credit cards, i had a standing order that comes out my bank on the 1st of every month but this month the bank decided to change the date to the 27th?? well the money was,t there i put it in on the 28th so a £20 bank charge later and a 20minute call to there call centre in mumbye thats a premium rate 0845 number only to be told to go to my local bank and sort it out, they grind my gears bigtime

:mad:i had one a few years back..

was on holiday in orlando and went to seaworld at the ticket office and went to pay on me barclaycard for entry and they said it had been refused.???? WHY i had just over £5000 in the account.. so i phoned my local uk branch and they said you are not supposed to be IN CREDIT WITH A BARCLAYCARD then they lifted the block...

ive not got any credit cards now after that and nowing the APR% its too dangerous......

after all the banks think one person or is that the bosses.. when they get 1 million bonus each year.... the BAS..... this year i got £129 bonus and then i was told i was paid to much and had to pay back £28.. i told them OFF and give it to charity so my local old folks home got some pennys.... thats my rant over.... sorry boys......:mad:
