i have a 997 walbro carb where the end of the throttle shaft where it connects to the throttle linkage got damaged. so now i have a replacement throttle shaft and am trying to put it in. the problem is i get binding/sticking when the throttle plate is attached to the shaft and i turn the shaft (like the throttle linkage normally does). it works silky smooth without the plate but with it it is sticky. everything looks ok, i can't figure out why this is happening. anyone fixed this before?

Your throttle linkage is hanging up on something. Open and close the throttle and watch the linkage ,it's probably touching something.
Is the throttle plate upside down by chance? And I agree with coop its gotta be in the bore 100% straight
and/or make sure the throttle plate/butterfly is sat the right way mate,
that the little indent above/below the screw hole isn't caught on the shaft and is sitting parallel to the shaft as it should ,
or that ya fitting the butterfly the right way up

I had to grind an edge on my Bartalone Velocity stack because my throttle linkage was dragging on it. Sorry I missed the part where you only replaced the throttle shaft. What the other guys said is probably the issue.
