Snow is dumping down so am going to keep working on the car. I was going to pull the gears off the car for my friend's Firehammer, but looks like we aren't going to run. Am still tempted to go make a short video running in the snow...

I actually had the semi out once in a snow filled parkind lot but I had buggy off road tires on. it was a hoot spraying snow around. Now the Firehammer is not here so no buggy tires. I guess I could rig up some chains. even big zip ties if I can find them in here would work...

grr snow is killing me this year. Most of what my business does is outside work. I was supposed to detail a big black truck with duallies yesterday, and a black Audi on Friday but can't seem to find a nice sunny day when needed. I do a lot of black cars/trucks because nobody seems to understand how to polish them without swirls. It's rather easy, just clean the buffing pad every panel and make sure you remove ALL the polishing compound, finish with a good machine glaze... and do the prep. no shortcuts for black. It just takes extra time...

grab that picco switch and turf the mechanical. The piece of mind is well worth it. I think it's the most important upgrade one can make..

oh man, babbling again... can't tell I am losing it today can you?
 
Hey pieous, bad news about your weather, thanks for the tip on polishing Black cars, i have an Audi A4 in black, has'nt got swirls yet ,but ive seen a couple of very faint ones so will do what you say....good tip...

Have also got to get a picco but need 4th channel so will have to wait till i get a 4pk at the end end of year hopefully....
 
hey pipeoud bud i think you are after teaching a lot here on how to polish a car peoperly....man i never thought of that lol thaks... damm swirlls...

me and the girlfriend were going to a circus this evening with her son of three years at five o clock(which turned out excellent)
so before all that,lol! i managed to squeese in a few vids of my new style vids of "ONBOARD" THE ONROAD.....these vid are just short vids of my usuall track but "ONBOARD" THE well loved CARSON C5 bmw 320 si.

god this is good..........i like dis style a lot....

my steering servo packed up lol (waiting for a delivery from hobbythek this week) you can see where it stops in the film.

I'll leave your thread to rc but if you have any questions when it's polishing time, drop a pm or add me to msn messenger or even skype. I don't mind sharing my knowledge on detailing. I doubt I would ever get a chance to do yours anyway. I can show you links to videos for training on how to use the stuff too. I've run a few shops, but prefer working for myself. 3rd year now and I haven't had to sell off my toys this winter so it's not as bad as last.

I dig this thread and get my daily rc fix when I can't go drive (am listening to a rainstorm tsunami right now outside) and I read and check the vids... you are pretty laid back too. some people might take offense to my babbling haha.

Have you done much in the way of shock oils or springs or just running it? I have experimented a bit with my semi suspension. The springs are super stiff, especially the backs. I took out most of the spacers and cut some stock fg silvers down to an inch and made dual rate springs. I'll see what the change does, but I made the mistake of changing a few things so will be hard to determine what each change did... can't help tinkering... still have some work to do on the car. am tracing out the servo tray on carbon for tomorrow's dremmel session. trying to get some long carbon strips from my bud that makes the sheets for me to make side rails (I am not paying retail for something I can make in 5 mins especially when they cost so much). I made the servo tray in my semi. stops the flex from the plastic. pretty easy to make even out of aluminum
 
thanks pipeous man i will keep that in mind,i do a lot of polishing with alloy polish i got its called true mirroe chrome,it is good,i may get the tips from you some time cheers.

man i would love to make up a alloy radio tray for my beetle fg may look in to that also,i think i might just get the carbon one from hobbythek as they are priced well.

intresting as you say about shocks man,i left the carson ones completly stock which i think are of very good quality, i took a look at them with springs off,they are bone rry with good rebound,i have them hardned up a little which makes a big differnce to handling,when the fg dtm tyres grip there can be a lot of body roll which you end up taking notice of and the hardnend shocks seem to combat this,they are a good shock im impressed with them and don't think i will touch them,also they look good being blue anoidsed alloy.

man you must be really itching to get running with the car now,i have to run my carson of fg every few days if i don't i start to get withdrawl symtoms which are quite nasty lol, some include dizzyness,irratible tendensies,hours of blank staring at the cars lol and hours stuck here on this..... they are just some of the symtoms if i don't get my fix :clown: lol

good that you watch the videos,so what do you think of the onboard set up then?

I like the on board stuff. I used to mount my cam in the heli and do landscape stuff. if you can somehow mount it with a foam it might reduce some of the vibration. my old screen is a little dark for that last one, but the skies looked really ominous

woohoo, income tax refund just showed up. time to go shopping :D have to buy some kind of bling to keep up to you hehe

try a little jeweler's rouge for metal... jeweler friend polished some rc motorcycle rims for me and I was stunned. he showed me some cool tricks I hadn't thought about.

and spoke to friend that makes carbon (it's really easy to make carbon sheets). he has some 19" sheets and I need 12.5" strips for the side rails. I'll stop by his place and cut a couple strips off. now the semi will have side rails too. his father is a retired cop that used to make boats, real and rc, as a hobby. he showed me/us how they are made... I just don't like the smell of resin curing. It's why I didn't follow my old man in body work and went to detailing instead. my stuff smells good.

ah well the vids you saw were done really quick as i was in a little bit of a hurry and it was late now was getting a little dark.

hard to get carbon sheets,where? expensive i would think now...

must try and machine some alloy might make up a radio tray for the onroad and few other usefull bits.

so when you hoping to run the fg again man,be nice to see a vid.

every think of starting up a thread on it,or have you already?
 
dc..too much vibration..need to mount up and have the camera float..
or on foam to help ....In board cam really not my thing for the car'sor truck's
I guess would be ok on the beach for girl watching....yahooooooooo oh la la...

order now wednsday...

well i have my choke shafts and servos now coming wednsday,:)

time to get this carson up and running with a new hitek large metal geared steering servo now for the wekend,and i will go and have a blast again...


hopefully now some offroad vids too.....



i am going to try the 100 mill oil to 5 liters of fuel ratio now and see how it goes......

I love onboard camera video. I figure someday I'll give it a shot, but I'll have to get one of those "gopro" video cameras. Too many other things I want first though! :)

Definitely put up some more vid, offroad will be cool.

worth a read to get some mounting ideas for the camera. wish I never used putfile to host my videos. I lost about 1/3 somehow. maybe their hard drive crashed I dunno. now I only use Photobucket or vimeo. we tried a lot of stuff with mounting down, pointing out etc... my last vid the lens unscrewed and fll off in a field... we looked for hours and I gave up... my cameraman (DVO) found it about 3 months later walking through the field lol.

I looked at those setups above and was going to have the camera controlled on a sperate radio, had a receiver setup iny acura with a 7 inch lcd for the camera man and we were going to communicate verbally to get directions co ordinated... but once I started investing and researching, it seemd a lot of money just to video rc races haha.. of course we had other ideas and plans, but it was an expensive expedition.

anyway.maybe you can mount up your camera with this stuff in mind to help.

update

well now some more bits coming for me tomorrow.

i ordered 4x hitek metal geared servos,two large and two small.

going to run a small now on the steering which is perfect, and one large one on the brake/throttle cause it is working the front and rear brakes at same time.

so one large going in to my fg also for steering.

coming also tomorrow is my set of matching 4 gbm cross shocks for my fg beetle and i ordered two choke shafts,mighty handy to have. lol:)
