Clutch bell turning blue

Lol. I assumed that. The clutch isn't slipping. It has stock springs. I have a 27.2 oniel brothers ported motor. 18/46 & 20/44 two speed. Differential is stock gearing.

strange that a stock spring is doing that. might be driving style?

how old is the clutch bell? they last forever but after years they get thin in the walls and therefore doesn't take long for them to heat up.

when the motor's not running give it a push on the ground and see if it rolls freely, something might be binding adding tension to the driveline.

Rolls fine. I just bought the truck used. Was think about going with the 8k spring. But u don't want to put more strain on it if stocks are heating up

well stock shouldnt heat up that much and neither should the 8K so something isnt right. might be driving style, if your driving on fraction throttle allot that would cause it as the clutch would only be partially enguaged.

if it rolls nothing is binding so rule that out, maybe take out the clutch bell and measure the thickness, im sure you will be able to get a thickness someone online of a new unit then you can tell how used your one is.

Mine did the same thing on my FG MT 2WD. Turns out it was the surface i was driving on. Thick grass on a field and this being newly cut (not lawn grass) gave the tires some extreme traction plus it was a pretty heavy constant resistance for the car. Made the clutchbell cry. Moving over to tarmac / sand / rubble and the bell showed no further signs on overheating.

If its an FG check the layshaft brake isnt waving about like a spare piss flap & catching the bell. These will be turning in opposite directions so could heat up quickly.

What model is this and what tires are you running?
You say truck. If this is the FGMT with stock tires then I agree with Voo. Too high a gearing for off road single speed.

Fg monster truck. It Has stock tires. The two speed is not working. I had it on just the street today and it turned blue on me. I would like to bring it back to stock gearing. I do have alloy front and rear end which does add a little more weight. Let's say the gearing is too high, does the extra weight on the layshaft with the 2 speed and all those steel gears put more strain on the clutch?

Here is a quick vid of my MT.It had a 2Xspeed on it and the gearing was well over geared, something like 1st=42 and 2nd=40 .The result was a totally knackered clutch and burnt(blue) bell.
.Here is another of a Lauty clutch after rough ground. Can you imagine the heat thats getting put on the clutch bell!

sure it's not stuck in 2nd gear? that happened on an old nitro (sorry for swearing) of mine years back, the clutch didn't like at all...

I removed the 2nd gear and left the gear carrier there so it's defidently in first. Last night I took the motor off. The inside of the clutch was shiny and the clutch pads was a little black. I sanded both down. The rear diff gearing was 16/48. The guy told me that he changed it. I put the new gear on. Now the diff is 14/48. I ran the truck this morning and it made a huge difference. Clutch did not turn blue. Thanks. I will be dumping the two speed and setting it back to stock at 16/48 gearing. One ?.... The clutch has a red spring. What color is stock? Is this an 8k spring? It doesn't launch off the line like it is. When you give it the slightest bit of throttle it engages.

Stock spring is black.
We have found that several users had the 16/48 on there new fgmt. Not sure if it was changed by the manufacture or distributer? 16/48, 16/48 is not a bad gearing and should not get the bell blue.

Wonder if something with the 2 speed was causing drag to make it heat up so much?
