Clutch carrier upgrade

Guys, I received the Lauterbacher and tried to install it. I notice it was binding onto my clutch bell. To make long story short, I've come down to a conclusion that because the Lauterbacher is slightly thicker (just slightly thicker) and I guess that is enough for it to binds to my clutch bell when all bolts are tighten. Only when I loosen all the bolts for my gear plate to my engine and chassis is when it doesn't bind and of course who will run their cars with loose bolts? Especially for the tranny. Anyone here use the Lauterbacher on their Redcat with no problem? Am I the only one who uses the Lauterbacher on our cat? I may have to return it cause its not working :( it is a pricey piece too. I just want it to work!

I'm sure you will be pleased with it. I ran the Mt today and it ran flawless. I'll do my best to get some vid.
GTS666, do you know if your Elcon is slightly thicker when comparing to a standard clutch pad and shoe? No matter what I do, it seems the my Lauterbacher is binding with my clutch bell. Can you do me a favor and verify if your Elcon is thicker than a standard clutch pad? If your Elcon works fine in our cats... maybe I may need to replace my Lauterbacher with the Elcon just for it to work? Please help me out bud.

I think I know where and why it is binding the lauterbacher has the thick reinforcement casing that is a lot thicker than the Elcon. The only solution that would be easy is to shim the whole motor away from the gear plate and redrill new holes in the chassis for the engine to mount. I would try to swap for the Elcon as I know that it is a direct fit. The Elcon clutch is a pain in the ass to remove from the crank once it is installed but it should last for ages.

Why is it pain in the ass to remove the Elcon from the crank? The Lauterbacher.... I simply screw a stud long enough through the crank and the Lauter came loose :D Should be the same for the Elcon right? Man... I was hoping I would be able to run my XB now :( Guess not.

About the hole drilling for the engine, that is too much mod cause I might even have to re-drill holes for my Jetpro rear pipe and shave my side chassis guard to accomodate my engine... :( I will give the Elcon a try. So the Elcon works in your Redcat with no mod? Bolts right in? You have the Elcon in your MT?

Yep I've got the Elcon in the Mt bolts in no mods were done. I've got a vid of it running on my Mt thread. It engages early as I get to much wheel spin other wise. The Elcon clutch from memory was held on with a long grub screw that went into the crank but to remove the clutch you have to use a piston stop and a wrench that is really hard to get in between the motor and the clutch case. Then you have to undo the clutch with the wrench can be a pain in the ass especially with the CY clutch case. Easy with the Zen case but that is not what we are using. Hope this helps.

Thank you... appreciate the info bud :D

yes. the broken part you posted. in my eyes, looking @ where the part broke the metal looks too coarse- as if it has too much zinc in the molten mix. I would ask the vendor if he would like to look at this part- be diplomatic to him- perhaps he will ship a replacement.

Oh... about that part... I told them I don't want a replacement because its not real aluminum. He gave me a full refund. Awesome customer service at Dave. Now I'm just waiting for Elcon cause the Lauterbacher one piece pad doesn't fit into my XB.

I honestly thought it was a billet piece until I saw it broke in half.
Yep me too, if it was to break in half like the reguler clutch carrier.... I'll rather by a dozen of the stock carrier instead. Again, all I want is a durable Elcon or Lauterbacher one piece clutch. Too bad the Lauterbacher won't fit into my XB. I wonder If I'm the only one with this problem.

Well-- i wanted someone else to jump in 1st !!! lol! Billet? not even close. its cast with a nice polished finish- 20 bucks says its made somewhere west of America. not Germany. I will say this- then watch my clutch let go!!-- I have zero issues with the stock set up-clutch.- I can buy a complete clutch- housing-everything a good price. - simple is better. just change the spring when the engagement rpm drops from the heat on the spring. - the weather yesterday morning -7am- was perfect- rained all night-about 40 degrees- light fog- ran the tires off the car- wet grass- mud- just perfect. took the garden hose to the car when finished- blo it off with the compressor- open the radio box- put a fan in front of the car until dry- love it!!

Yep, can't agree anymore on simpler is better but my clutch carrier keeps on breaking on me. I have no choice but to upgrade. What kind of motor are you running bud? :D
