Hey Guys..
Its been a while, started to check back in here over the last week or so after being AWOL for a year or so... Did ya miss me ???:lol:
So haven't run my MT since the summer of 2011
due to other commitments.
Ive got a quite winter coming up so dug out my bug, decided to strip it down for a good clean and service as its been sat on the shelf for over a year.
Man it was in a state, forgot about the issues i had last year (probably why i put it away for a while).
Stripped the diff out, not much grease in their, plenty over everything around it though, not even sure how it got out, looks like silicone at the end gave up as the retaing screw was missing too !!
Teeth all in good condition, re greased and packed, sealed and a new retaining screw.
Checked the clutch and their were no pads what so ever - none !!! I do recall my last few runs being bad and figured I'd tear it down but never got round to it. Over a year later and im glad i decided to tear it down before thinking about starting it first.
New fuel lines and a clunk. (why is it called a clunk ??)
Stripped down the Carb, that was all in good condition, new gaskets and a new plug.
The head gasket looks ok, so probably not going to change that.
Front brake (cable) disks are a tad rusty, pads were shot so changed them and cleaned up the disks.
The front left square drive was loose, the disk wasnt even seated on the hub and just rattling around on the shaft.
Swapping the Hitech 645 for a Bluebird 630MG on the front brakes, thinking the same for the thottle/R brake. - Maybe a Savox 1256 if i can sneak one past the Mrs..
Layshaft bearing has siezed completly :w00t: solid. wont move what so ever !!! Never seen a bearing to that before on a scale model ??
I guess its been sitting in the garage on the shelf through the seasons for over a year which hasnt helped !
Guess my thoughts here are for the Newbies, (and maybe not so newbies) is it's worth while stripping your trucks down and checking those parts you cant see periodically. - It could've cost me a shed load more if i had tried to run it as it was !!
Cant wait to get it all back together... im getting itchy fingers
