'Morning all.

Apologies that this sounds like a bit of an advert, but after 2 months off the road I'm rather chuffed with myself getting the Baja going again.

I've had some trouble finding a decent stiff radio plate to replace the standard plastic one, main reason is to improve the brake performance (standard rear disc). I got a King Cobra one off ebay for £25, but discovered that to fit it I'd also need new throttle/brake linkage and would have to modify the front part of the roll cage a little. Sod that.

I decided to solve the issue completely by designing and making my own plate to match the standard plastic one. Plan A was to buy a sheet of 2mm ally for a tenner and dremmel it, but I found a guy on ebay who laser cuts stuff to order. Half an hour later with a set of callipers and some CAD software I'd knocked up an exact replica. The fela on ebay only charged me £8, bargain!

The pics below are the result of my efforts, better than the aftermarket stuff, and cheaper too!. (if anyone wants the radio plate design message me and i'll send you it in PDF and DXF formats and point yo towards the guy that cut it for me)

The main problem with the aftermarket tray i tries, throttle servi in wrong place, and cut outs the wrong size. Battery bar also raised the CoG.

all to make the finished article :)
(n.b. outer roll cage and rear wing lasted about 3 mins into the first run, ad I'm currently planning a full alloy roll cage

I make my own servo trays from carbon. a local friend makes sheets and I trade him crap for them. carbon is so easy to cut with a dremmel compared to aluminum.
that looks good though

plans can be found here

as it's a custom job it'll only fit HiTec servos at the mo, but if anyone wants me to quickly adapt the design to their servo size/configuration, let me know and I can knock up a copy pretty quick (then you can just email it over the the ebay guy and get it mad up).

Forgot to add, that to fit it I have cut the original battery mounts down by 10mm (so the battery now rests on the chassis and does not swing), and also used the original plastic radio box mounts. To mount the tray, I made up two 7mm solid alu bars with M4 threads in each end, then fastened it all together with 2 m4 cap head and 2 m4 countersunk hex head screws.

Hey Brawn (and all), if you are ever looking for some Aluminum sheeting, most of the time sign shops carry stuff up to 4 mm thickness (most of the time reasonably priced) . Some has adhesive stickers on it but you can remove that with a heat gun, or even paint stripper. Nice work though

yeah I was going to do that, using a print out as a template. but when the laser cuter people said it's be £8, that sealed the deal for me. If I was at my parents place i'd have made it myself on the milling machine (plans are afoot for my own cable brakes when I get the time)
