I am having a hell of a time with glitching with my Airtronics Caliber. I guess it's time to bit the bullet and pick up a new control. It is from 1993 after all

All I have is $200. US to play with. What can you guys recommend?

I was thinking about a Spektrum, but I have heard they don't like Gassers. I am not too big a fan of JR radio gear, but it's one of the only things I can find in my price range. I was also thinking about an Airtronics MX-3 2.4. I've had 3 MX-3's and I love them, but I've never ran them with a gasser.

Any ideas? :helpsmilie:

Thanks Guys.

Hey trip..I have specktrum Dx3.0....ever so often get a glitch problem.....
I tell ya for the money the Futaba 3pm is the way to go.....better coverage and better
spec's than spektrum.....That's my next radio system.....Slawhammer

I can't afford it!

When I say glitching, I mean it's glitching BAD!! Throttle servo is going from full throttle to full brake and the steering is going nuts too. But it only does it while it's running... It's like I'm turning the controller on and off!! Or like I am rubbing the 2 antennas together!

I went through and replaced the steering and throttle servos and tightened everything down, but it didn't help! I am thinking it's my controller, because if I shake it up and down, the servos twitch (with the engine off) I fired up the motor and it went nuts while heading right at me and slammed into my ankle, I have a nice lump now!

Plus the way the throttle trigger is set up, I have a 70/30 trigger, which means I have way too much throttle throw and not enough brake throw. I have the endpoints set to compensate, but I would still like more brake throw. The throttle is set at 35% and the brake is set at 160% No mechanical set on the trigger ether. Or any way to adjust it. (Think of how a Traxxas controller has the mechanical switch for 70/30 or 50/50) I don't have that.

I think I am going to pick up an MX-3 2.4 for $165. shipped.

Suggestions???

Yup, Good advise, Super. I just swapped out radios (I have 3 of these) and it the same problem. So, I am assuming it's the receiver again. I have bought 2 receivers in the past 2 years. And at 85 bucks (US) a pop, it gets kinda expensive! I never have had any luck with Futaba receivers, but I like the built in "Failsafe" and Futaba was the only one that builds them, that I am aware of.

I don't have any room in my Receiver box for any foam, so I stuck my receiver to the lid of my receiver box with 2 layers of servo tape, but I guess that's not enough?!?

I am a machinist, not an electrician, so I hate trouble shooting wires and whatnot! I couldn't tell a diode from a relay if my life depended on it!

Time for new stuff, I guess!

Oh! forgot to mention. I have the 3pm 2.4Ghz. It is a great controller. Ran over 2.5 gallons of gas and have not had one incident. The build in failsafe take 2 seconds to set.

I was waiting and hoping you would jump in on this... Thanks! How do you feel about the Airtronics MX-3fg? That's where my head is at...

I'm not a big fan of Futaba...

I know what you mean about the spektrum.... I had one a few years back and hated it!

Trip, I hate to say but I am starting to agree with the Futaba lovers. I have not heard of the problems I have with the spek's. I have 4 radios and again another is starting its glitch problems. Warranty has been great but I don't want warranty all the time I want a radio I can set and forget. I HATE electronics, one reason I will pay more then everything else for the best electronics.
I think I will sell off the working speks, get the other glitching one warrantied and try again with the Futabas.

"T" what is the warranty like on the Faast systems?

The more I think about radios, the more I am leaning toward this one.

I am an Airtronics man through and through. I had 3 FM's and I loved them, but I stripped the screw in my steering servo, and of course it wasn't centered :cursing: So I had to use my old Caliber, because I can put the servo anywhere I want and call it "Zero". Then adjust my trims from there. The Caliber was the only radio I have found that had this feature.

Now I have all new servos (again) So now I can use whatever radio I like.

Does anybody have any experience with this?

That's true, I know my MX-3 FM's were pretty basic. On the other hand, I had a Nomadio Sensor and every time I wanted to do something, I had to bust out the book! Too much poop I didn't need! But it was nice to know the speed, rpm, temp, etc...

I am going back to a stick radio myself. I have a dx3.0 and never a problem but not enough channels. with front and rear brakes and kill switch you need 4 ch with mixing. the dx3r doesn't have mixing I understand which sucks.

the airtronics dsm I looked at but the lhs owner told me they need airtronics rx's only, which are pricey. so it's going to be a heli dsm radio for me. then I can add more things to the semi later like lights and such. 8 channels to play with would be fun

i ve never owned/used an Airtronics radio i was a JR guy before the React. but JR didnt have 2.4 at the time (still don't???? but its coming i hear) but used a few AT servos and they seemed to be good.

i think airtronics is a 90day warrenty. where Futabas is 1yr i believe. so that maybe a big factor when buying new. especially when the 3PM is the same or less in cost. i heard the AT MX was like 130.00 when it was released. may want to look around for a better price that Tower is offering.

what did u end up buying?i think the mx3 is also good since its a 2.4ghz .and i think on futaba u need to check some settings or it can cause damage to your servos.
