Removing 'one end', will simply spin power away where there's least traction - where you've taken the dog bones out.

If its set to be 4WD, then removing dog bones should simply spin the power away.
Before you remove anything, you could test it by simply removing the retaining grub screw(s) in the central drive shaft, one side or the other.
Once you have, fire it up, and see how it is.
I'm presuming the drive cups - into which the dog bones sit - are held onto the output shafts by grub screws.
ONLY DO THIS FOR A QUICK TEST - as you can damage something longer term.
