So, last week I killed a pull start on my 30 DNT, I had a Rovan easy starter on (stop giggling) that had been installed on a couple of different engines and managed to strip the thread on the flywheel nut which also holds the pawl plate.
Anyways you can't buy the nut by itself, you have to buy the full easy starter, and at £30 its expensive for just a nut which is all I needed out the kit.
So jumped on the lathe and milling machine after receiving the new kit and then looking online at the likes of the turtle racing versions I realised I could utilise the M6 threads that you would use to remove the flywheel.
So been on the lathe and Miller and made my own version of the pawl plate, but using the Rovan pawls and springs for now.
I do have a billet driving plate on the truck, my prototype will be installed on the Baja as its easy access to check on it.

This is the M8x1mm flywheel nut/stud

And now you can see my version, this is prototype and will probably have a lot of material removed for weight saving. Ignore cross head screws, they are what I had to hand, will be replaced with hex heads.

So, whats your thoughts and have you done something similar or different for using easy starters?

That disc you made looks very good and solid.
Only mod I have ever made to pull starters is to blow some air inside them lol.
I m still using the crappy stock one that comes with 29ccs and lower (yes the one that has the teeth coming out from the center like a turtle) and is lasting for 1.5 years ( yes I do use the car, had to change tires twice )

Whats wrong with Phillips screws U a racist ?? LMFAO J/K

That looks good mate! It’s always nice to see fellow membersmaking parts for their rc’s. I’d buy it??
I wouldn't make for general sale, but saw an opportunity to make something for myself that I could possibly improve a current design, YOU know how it starts lol.
Plus I love making stuff from lumps of material, believe it or not this pull start pawl plate was cut from a 500mm square sheet of 12mm thick aluminium. Started approx 55mm square.
An hour on the lathe and miller gave the above results.
Something special about making your own parts.

A lot of guys use the pull tang to tighten the flywheel on. Need to use a nut and washer first than put the pull tang on. All the tightening force is going on the threads of the cast pulltang and that is why they strip easily.
