So some buddies and I are looking to restore an old track that once was used for 1/8. Track needs a little work to accommodate the larger trucks and we are working on that now. With that being said we are also trying to appeal to two different classes…2wd and 4wd with engines no larger than 32cc. My question is kinda subjective about engine size for the track. I know there are lots of variables but would a 29cc be to small for the Losi 5t? My old used 30cc motor finally quit on me and looking to put another engine in. Not looking at the high end $700 plus motors just a good all around motor with some reliability. I have read some people are just fine with the 29 but seems like most run 32cc. My gearing is 19t pinion / 58t spur.

Unless you intend to have a spec class, then it won't really matter much what engine is in it. 80% of the battle is handling and how good of a driver you are. I'd bump the limit to 34cc. That way most the popular cheaper engines and kits will be covered.
yeah maybe we should bump it to 34 to cover those engines. do 29cc's race with the 34cc's?
So to put this in real world perspective I race on road with my 5ive-t and mine is pretty much fully built with a 34 esp race port and a stock 5ive with a 29cc whooped my butt. Its not about the engines, it's about the setup and suspension
I'm coming from racing 1/8 and getting into the 1/5 stuff and really having blast with it. I actually always raced with a smaller engines as i feel like I'm not throttling as much and can keep the trigger pulled. Also a frim believer you can have to much horse power which can lead into all kinds of driving and handling issues. Like the comment below...to me driving is the most important part as anyone can stomp the gas but how good are you at controlling it. I have always been more consistent with lap times going smaller but deff not the fastest on the track. Then you get the guys with the best of the best out there and they cant drive a straight line!

Unless you have a lot of very good drivers, I doubt the displacement will be much of an advantage to one gyy or another. You could always break it into classes by cc or engine mods. Ultimately it's up to you, see how it goes at first then make a decis
Also to add engine size and setup will be dictated by the track layout. We run a very tight track and tire compound and suspension setup is very critical.

what engines are running at your track? I really don't want to go more than the 320 but actually looking at the 290 zenoah.

2wd class:23cc cannot alter cc. Can be modified but must retain stock case. Any aftermarket exhaust.

4wd:26cc cannot alter cc can be modified but must retain stock case. Any aftermarket exhaust

F1: I believe is 26cc cannot alter cc and the same modified but retain stock case. Any aftermarket exhaust

Open class: run what ya brung all drive types and engines any cc.

Noise requirements is silenced exhaust.
