Hey guys.

I've been thinking about some new rims & rubber for my MT beetle.

After trawling through the sites, there isnt that many options for tyres that i like.
Im currently running the FG Baja wide wheels and the rears are past it. The foam seems to of gathered in one place (probably from all the wheel spins )on the wheel leaving a lump inside the tyre, and the edges are begining to split from the rim.

Reading through the threads, there are some of you that have put the HPI addaptors on the FG and run HPI wheels.

Looking at the HPI wheels / tyres there's plenty of options.
From what i can see / find, the wheels are splt rims enabling various tyre options on the wheel without glue ? is this correct ?

Apart from the obvious costs to the hubs, wheels and tyres, will this give me the ability to change my tyres depending on what/were im bashing on ? i.e sand/gravel/tarmac etc.

Any input will be helpful.
Cheers :D

Don't you like the MT wheels & tyres? how about the stadium ones?
I do have the FG MT wheel/tyres. They come out to play every now and then. There a big wheel, with lots of rotating mass, harder to control in confined spaces (trees, kerbs etc)
Depends what mood of bashing im in, baja wheels for smoother surfaces and speed, or the MT wheels for the rougher stuff.

I do like the look of the stadium wheels/ tyres. I guess i'm thinking with the hpi set up, i could change tyres to suit, rather than spending big £££ on complete wheel/tyre set up.

go for it mate one of the better mods ive done to my bug the tyre/wheel choice is great and the joy of not having to glue tyres is a big bonus,,also running the hpi wheels you have the option of the wider rear tyres which makes a big difference,,the only downside is the inital outlay i got my adapters and a set of wheels from thepitstop-shop.nl as i needed to find a adapter that i could run fg cable brakes with,as some you cant but the adapters were 30 odd euros a pair which i didnt think was to sad,,and im using km/rovan tyres which at first i didnt think were going to take the abuse but so far they have

or you could use XRC rims.
beadlocks and HPI size wheels but FG squares

yes i agree with that but was unsure of the quaility which is why i never went with them as it would be cheaper but not if its going to eat the square drives killing the rims,,,hpi spec wheels have a monster 24mm hex that i cant see getting rounded

Cheers guys, this is great info.

Been surfing and researching, i did find a few hubs that didnt accomadate the square hub for the break disks which was starting to raise concern. I have both front and rear cable brakes. I Did find a few on fleabay (from the US and China) - there not that much different in price from TPS, The fg supply ones come in a bit more.

I am liking the idea of this conversion to the HPI wheels. the tyres on their own seem fairly reasonable and only one (well maybe 2 ? :D ) set of wheels does sound appealing.

With the weather we have here, and to be able to change out for wets / dry or mud etc does sound cool, as i have a few places i go to bash and they have different terrains etc.

Another question - Renbar, did you get 4 rears, so thier all the same size etc ? and what does it mean by the offset on the wheel ? cant find an answer for this any where ?

im running 5b rears and 5b fronts as you would on a hpi baja as being 2wd i don't see the need for wide fronts

the tps adapters should make it the same width as the stock fg wheels when using hpi wheels,,mines been made wider at the front now as i added 9mm squares as well as the adapters to bring them out 9mm and it helps being wider at the front

I saw these yesterday but you never know with stuff from China ! thanks for the info :D
He does have a nice range of wheels/tyres too.

Cheers guys for all your info, now need to decide what tyres im gonna get :D

Are they Beadlock look-a-likes?

Doesn't mention beadlock, unless I've missed it, which is possible!!

Al.
Your right, it doesn't state beadlock,
he has quite a few, some say beadlock and then various colours etc,
and some don't mention beadlock at all.

have sent him a question.

Good spot Al, cheers :-)

No worries.
Could limit later tyre choice and replacements.

FG's are all glued, 'though I'm looking into using E6000 as I'm sick of blowing tyres off their rims!!

Could be my gentle driving style of course!!

Al.

Yeah TPS has a hige range, sooooo much choice, oh what to get :D

I like the mad max style wheel with the aggressive looking tyre / tred :D
Will probably stick with getting them from TPS to stick with the know shop rather than flebea and china ! lol

if you want max grip on wet grass and mud then id recomend the tps knobbys there a hostile mx style tyre and they just destroy the ground and mine are lasting quite well for copies also there bow tie style tyres are a good choice
