once upon a time fg was the popular brand know so many people have gone from fg to hpi on this forum and others whats the deal with that ive only owned a fg and its truly an astonishing peace off kit i wouldn't know what to think off the baja but cooome on is it that good.

who thinks fg is better then hpi's baja's ?

never owned an hpi, not sure I ever will. 5 fg's here and one nutech... well really the semi is mostly nutech so...

for off road I like 4wd. so no hpi for me. and I want to add a 4wd Leopard this year

glad someone is not a hpi freak, is a nutech a copy fg ? what fg's you own 4wd must be slow but i bet they handle good. 2wd is the one for me.

sonic,

living on this side of the pond I find FG parts easy to get hols of, and I prefered the shorter wheelbase of teh FG so that's what I went with. Happy with what I got so no plans to change.

I think that sums it up for a lot of people. FG doesn't have the market share or even exposure in the US like they do across the pond, further parts for FG's are much easier to find there than in the US.

The Baja on the other hand, parts are plentiful and even a number of LHS even have a number of parts. IMO it's really about availability and exposure.

I've owned both a Baja and FG and feel both are great kits.

here in oz HPI is most popular but i love FG, currently own 2 and had 3 in total.

swapped my FG MT for a 5B ss. The ss lasted about 2 weeks before I got rid of it for another FG as i didnt like anything about it.

FG is the no. 1 choice for me hands down.

I bought a Baja for the reasons Woodie mentioned, plus it's my only fifth scale so I didn't want the added complexity / maintenance of 4WD.

That being said, I've drooled over FG stuff since reading RCCA as a kid, and I will own one someday. IMO they make some of the nicest / trickest large scale stuff on the planet, and they've been in the game a LONG time so you know they'll be around if you need parts or support.

FG all the way, unless you live near sand dunes. biggest reason baja's sold on masse is as woodie says, most LHS in USA and Canada have them on the shelf, if say FS had have been there instead they'd be the number one seller here and the after market would have serviced them instead.
I drove a 5b (a 5t too) for about 20 secs and gave the controller back, not for me I'm afraid but each to his own. Will say it really started 1/5th in a big way in N.America so whether you like em or not they have been a great thing for our hobby.

Nutech is it's own company but their on road is an fg clone, so I use a lot of nutech parts. I have my 2wd semi, the f1, 4wd marder beetle, 4wd baja and building another on road hybrid fg/nutech. I had FG's before the baja came out. know them, have lots of parts and bearings and crap to fit. we run an on road club here so most of the cars are fg, off road is my excursions to moo's place on the island for a getaway. I like 2wd for on road, 4wd for off road...

I was going to buy a 5t and convert it to an on road nascar LOL

Hey guys!!

I have both a FG Leopard and a HPI Baja. All I can say is this: The FG is way better built and handles way better than the HPI Baja IMO. The HPI Baja is good for bashing around cause parts are cheaper and usually, LHS have plenty of stock in North America. But, if I was to choose just one, FG over the HPI!!

woow some great input on this i didnt know there was so many fg lovers, its just the fact so many people own hpi products i thought fg was dieing down but that isn't the case definitely. I to think fg is that one for me ive used a baja for 1-2 days but i wasn't to keen on it i think the fg is much more stable and better build, durable, parts are easier and cheaper to find, every retailer will have them plus its better for jumping the baja just nose dives alot witch can get abit annoying at times.

i don't live no where near sand dunes lol im from the uk all you see here is rain so i think i have made the right choice fg is the one for me hands down no contest.

p/s the baja does look awesome, at the end off the day its about what you feel comfortable and whats right with you.

I myself prefer FG over HPI, I've driven a couple of bajas and didn't understand what all the hype was about. I feel FG builds a better car, it's more durable and handles alot better plus I like how the much easier the FG is to work on than an HPI.

Some interesting comments on both sides, i myself am on my 2nd FG, first being a Marder and now a FG MT converted to a beetle. I stuck with FG as i new my way around it and had lots of spares. I do like the look of the Baja though but at some stage i want a 4wd, not sure if i'll convert this beetle, or what ??

For those that said you drove a Baja for 5 mins and gave the controller back, why ? what is so different in the driving / handling ?

^^Yeah, I'd be interested to hear that as well.

DISCLAIMER: Again, the Baja is the only large scale I've ever driven, so I have nothing to compare it to, take that into account as I type this.

My entry into hobby grade RC's was 2WD stadium trucks, so I prefer the handling traits of a 2WD, and like being able use the throttle to help rotate the car through a turn. I like oversteer, and I'm a hang the tail out n steer into it kinda guy :D and that comes from stadium trucks.

As far as everything else goes, I think the 5B handles very well (have no idea of the 5T or SC). It jumps great, nice and level (at least mine does anway), and it's very stable and predictable.

Someday, I'll have an FG. Until then, any of you FG guys that would like to volunteer to let me beat on one of your rigs for a tank to experience the difference, feel free, I'll surely take you up on it. :)
