The alloys I have on my FG MT with (no longer available unless you're lucky) MCD Chevron tyres are 1.5Kg EACH - 6Kg unsprung weight!!

It still takes off without problem!!

Al.

Kin el thats heavy!! No wonder your truck weighs in at 18kgs :w00t:

Yeah, my beetle still goes like stink with the monster wheels. I was more or concerned about the weight further out with adapters 2 inches long. Also had the scale there for some rock crawler stuff I'm doing.

You want to try carrying the 23$"er upstairs when I've finished with it for a while - like now!!
Tyre marks on the walls!!

Still lifts and will wheelie once it hits above ~25mph still accelerating, so can't be bad.
Not quite like the E-Maxx (6.5Kg) that will land on it's roof, despite a wheelie bar!!

Ive seen the pics & vids you've posted and it is a masterpiece Keith :p

Hey folks I need a suggestion on pipes, the truck currently has the alloy 3 tuning FG pipe which I'm pretty happy with. I did want to try a Jetpro but not sure which one to go with. I figure the smaller paddles will make the truck a little more torquey down low so I would try a mid to top end pipe. If I'm reading correct that would be a V3? I don't see a b2b on ddm.

When I first got my FG MT a few years ago, I was dead keen on pipes.
A great pipe is the DDM Dominator - some people have had issues with mounting, but mine mounted fine.
I was advised by DDM that the High End pipe has similar torque to the Torque pipe, with more top end.
No idea how it actually does compare, but with a well used G260RC (standard) motor, it flew.
But .... IT'S VERY LOUD!!!

I've reverted to an FG tuned pipe, that appears to give similar power, but is MUCH quieter - perhaps 2/3 as loud.
It gives you more options where you can go without people complaining, basically - eventually when the keenness wears off, it is a consideration!!

Thats an interesting comparison Al. I have the FG tuned pipe and wondered how it compared to other pipes. Its certainly a good all round pipe.

Well I will take your words of experience and spend my money elsewhere. Like I said I like the pipe, so I'll stick with what's working.

Well I've been waiting on Powerslide to get back to me on shipping and I just can't wait anymore, I just want to get the beetle going again. So I went on DDM and instead of ordering a pipe I ordered these adapters, a little narrow I think but I'll worry about width later.

With express post, which usually means about a week to me in Canada.

I should have some aluminum goodies tomorrow night, finish polishing my pipe  and I should be good to make so videos. Hmm pipe polishing and video making "WHAT KIND OF FORUM IS THIS ANYWAYS:w00t:" I should get a chance tonight to throw the electronics back in.

Alright, got some progress done early this morning. Alloy rear arms upper and lower, raised rear hubs, front hubs and steering bellcrank/servo saver. I ended up pulling this all off of a Evo Comp roller I picked up yesterday for $100 (damn good deal IMO). The car also came with an adjustable diff and complete alloy front end, more on the front end later. I will be picking up another Evo Comp off the same guy (former FG sponsered driver) with full front and rear hyrdos in the next week or 2. So I should be able to outfit the Beetle with full hydro brakes and still be able to put together a 530mm basher of a touring car.

On to some pics, I will be cleaning up the new parts a bit but I'm still test fitting everything before I pick up the motor mounts and loctite everything in place.

The guy I bought the Evo from says he'sgoing to look around for me for an alloy gear brace aswell (fingers crossed)

Thanks Dwarfy, I may be on a budget but I know how to find deals LOL. I was hoping the Evo I bought already had an Alloy rear tower to but no such luck. Oh well I've got 3 plastic ones now so I'm not to worried if one breaks.

I'm still fiddling with the front bulkheads/armmounts to see if I will use them. Only issue is they are different heights to give the flat chassied touring car some castor I guess. Mounted on the beetle means a big amount of castor (looks similar to the amount on an HPI) but also means one off shock tower mount and either removing the side rails or making some new ones. Not to mention the shocks are quite a bit shorter, might not be a huge deal in the sand but I think it would bottom out pretty easy in a decent jump.

Ok, I got my AMS adapters in the mail today very nice adapters I may ad. The bug has now been dubbed "Pure Evo'L" due to it's evo goodies. I've got a fair bit of work to go but I can see the end is near. I will post some pics in a bit and some new details.

Here are a few pics of how we're shaping up. I managed to make the Evo Competition TC front end to work with the longer rear Touring shocks, it does sit pretty low but nothing taller tires won't take care of. I still have to drill some holes to mount my steering servo, make some front bulkhead bracing, finish painting the body, polishing the exhaust and a few details here and there.

I also have to set up the camber, downstops ect. so the wheels are all wonky right now.

I also flipped the front arms around backwards, which gave me the minor stretch I was looking for and I think it looks the business now.

I will get some body off pics when I get some more details finished.

I wasn't able to use the Evo rear lower arms as they are the short arms. I think I would like next to plan for Elcon rear arms, arm mounts and rear shock tower. Once that is sorted out I think I will go for a 4 bolt OBR (not sure size yet) and I think I will go ahead and order up a Jetpro just to try it out. Damn, I thought I was on a budget, my plan was to pick up a Baja too. I think I am content with just beating up on them.

That looks great.
I like the reversed front arms bit.
Do you need that much reverse camber on the rear?
Just a thought.
Al.

Thanks Al, only problem I'm having so far is by flipping the arms I've also moved the shocks towards the rear of the arm allowing the turning arm on the knuckles to contact the shocks really early in the steering throw. This just means unfortunatly I cannot use the aluminum knuckles for now until I figure something out, I have reverted back to the stock plastic monster knuckles which solved this issue.

I've had the whole Monster torn down to every nut and bolt to clean absolutely evrything, that's why the suspension is all out of wack in the pictures. I got it all adjusted last night and now just have to run my fuel tube, install electronics, and I can take it for a test run. I have to make up a front portion to the roll cage so I can run body mounts off of it, the old tubes running to the Monster shock tower no longer work.

Yeah wasn't she pretty LOL, it's come quite a long way in a short time from when I bought it. Can't wait to see how it works set up this way. Although I mainly built it this way to hit the beach in the warmer weather my buddy runs paddles in soft wet muddy kind of grass and in snow and they work better than his Proline Trenchers on his 5T. I think I will be ordering a full set of 5B Proline Bowties for regular use, but for now I think my buddy will be giving me his beat up tarmacs to use for now on the street.
