Hey guys, so during a light tarmac bash session with my Hpi Baja, the brakes suddenly stopped working. I noticed the brake pad where the cam contacts the back shot out and cracked in half (not sure if this happened while braking or if it cracked once it flew out and hit the ground). One of the metal guide posts for the pads also flew out and was lost. I also lost both flanged cam bushings which was annoying. It took quite a bit of sourcing to finally get a hold of some. I ended up getting a pair from Rovan shipped to me. Anyways, is this a common problem? When I got the replacements I super glued the bushings to the base so maybe next time there's a brake failure I wouldn't lose those pieces again. Maybe my servo is pulling too hard and the brakes were too tight causing the failure? Got new guide pins along with new pads and rebuilt everything. It seems to be working well now, I'm just wondering what could have caused the failure. The brakes work great, I can literally lock my brakes and tires skid to a stop. Maybe that's too tight? I bought this rig used in the summer and I know it has aftermarket brakes. There's 2 slotted rotors with 3 brake pads. The standard brake pads on the inside and outside as well as a carbon fiber pad in the middle of the 2 rotors. I've seen the stock brakes on my friends Baja's, and it's honestly laughable. They barely work.

Just looked up the turtle racing 1 piece. That's exactly what I had in mind if I were to redesign it. The use of springs on the guides to give the pads proper pressure to keep them apart so there's no brake drag when no brakes are applied. Also the use of bearings instead of that stupid bushing. Mine already did away with the ninja star setup. I have 3 pads and 2 discs. I guess similar to the RCR design.

Good info. I guess since this is my beater car, I'll just wait till next time it needs a brake rebuild. Hemi MaxHex + TR one piece brake mount. (y)
