Yes the kinetic shock method works, I actually have a couple short lengths of brass rod I can screw on the end of the crank just for this.You need this puller, there's other ways to do it but you run the risk of messing up the threads on the crank. If your mechanically inclined you can thread the nut on the crank till its flush, use a brass drift punch and hammer to hit the crank snout will holding onto the flywheel with some sort of leather or padded gloves so you don't cut yourself. https://www.ddmracing.com/ddm-racing-flywheel-puller-z965

However, the puller is the way to go. Snug it up good and one quick shot with a small hammer and it pops right off. No crank damage this way.
I made my own puller. Super simple, that is what I do. Make stuff, so I am lucky.I know I have the puller, I did the brass drift when I first started and didn't have one.
