I've read alot in forums that alot of people use camp fuel or AV fuel on the marine side of the hobby but that seems a bit extra. Is REC-90 applicable for zenoah engines? 90 octane ethanol free marine grade gas is right up the street but I didn't know if the little octane boost could be harmful to the internals. I know the ethanol eats the carb internals and I'd like to avoid changing diaframs at all costs ( I can't spell I'm aware lol)
 
I use tru fuel from home depot. It's 92 octane and ethanol free. I bring my stuff inside so I don't want to smell gas as I really do hate the smell but anything 91 to 94 is ok and beyond 94 octane is a waste of money. Ive read that Coleman fuel has an octane rating of 55 so its pretty volatile imo.

AV gas has lead in it and id refrain from putting it in a boat because if your caught good luck.

Point is if you don't mind the gas smell get ethanol free and call it a day.

Camp fuel works but it’s hard to start. Years ago I tested it. I’d avoid that one.

I run 110 race fuel in my Taylor 55, and 94 aspen fuel in my other models.

As rep mentioned Av gas works too. Some say the lead in the fuel can cause unwanted deposits in the combustion chamber but I’ve never seen it. The bigger problem with Av gas is it’s a oxygenated fuel. But I’ve run it and never had any issues.

Ethanol is in all fuel in Canada. I avoid it at all costs.

The main reason I was looking into rec90 because it's marine grade fuel right at the marina up the street 90 octane ethanol and additive free and 4$ a gallon compared to 10-12$ a gallon
 
That's rubbish, and ethanol free for boats is standard for us in the states. I understand as ethanol is hygroscopic and since boats are in water you get the point. Plus the concern is ethanol breaks down fuel lines and rubber that gas is carried through and our government wants to protect the idiots running boats as to not blow themselves up.
 
The government doesn't care what gas goes into a boat. They don't have the same tier of emissions that on road engines do. Think they are like a tier 2. We just started seeing evap systems on 21 model year boat fuel systems. It's caused a lot of issues with tanks being over pressurized and the stupid valve they use to limit fuel flow from the tank to the engine is just straight up garbage. Had a yamah 60hp jet drive in at the shop literally just ran put of factory warranty and the valve was junk and over pressurizing the fuel system to the point is was chugging black smoke at half throttle and barely keeping 600 rpm. Worst part is the valve I'd part of the suction tube of the tank and on national back order. Yamahas fix was to replace it with an inline version. We had another idea, but since my uncle is dealer he couldn't install a normal tank vent. Anyway the engines are rated to run up to 10% corn garbage. There's just no mandate for water use, and you also pay a premium for regular gas on the water. Last time my dad filled the angler up he said it was almost $7.00 a gallon at the marina. Screw that.

You are correct it will work but always give it a good shake before use. That’s good practice for any mixed fuel.

Ethanol doesn’t mix with oil though That’s the problem.

Hey cool experiment is to mix a 25:1 mix with 12% ethanol let it sit over night in a beaker check it. I’m going to see if I can find that video.

This isn’t it but another example of how bad ethanol is. Our full size vehicles don’t care. Because they are 4 stroke engines.

Depends on the oil you are using. Most any bean oil/caster, and most klotz products, mix fine with ethonal/alcohol based fuels. Think of our nitro engines. They are methonal based fuels. Most have a synthetic or bean oil based lube in them. Pretty much the reason we used klotz in my old man's boat, it mixed with alcohol and didn't have low ambient temp issues like bean oil does.
