4pk is what I own, and I think you can't buy a better set for what I use it for....
I use alot of the functions and learn more about it every time I use it.

Always had futaba for my rc cars and do use spectrum sets for my heli's, but the futaba 4pk just feels so balanced and is easy to use I can't see my self owning any thing but the 4Pk.

which speky heli system do you use? dx7?

Used to have the Dx7 when I had my Trex 600e, it was the first 2.4 out back then but sold the heli and Dx7 to buy an fg MT.
Now I have a Dx6i for my trex 450 sport and MSR.

Brad

cool i have a dx7 currently myself, i wanted teh newer dx8 but the price was better on the dx7. here the big system for air is spektrum hands down, there were some futaba fasst users but when they lost their birds (3 that i personally know of 1 gas P-51, 1 gas heli with camera mount, and 1 turbine jet) they moved to the dx8's and haven't looked back LOL. i like my dx7 but would prefer the DX8

THe 4PKS rules. I use most of the features on it. Read the manual and learn how to use the radio, and you will benefit from all the controls and adjustment.

Screw all Spektrum radios. Nuff said.

What do you all think about the Futaba 4PL ??

The 4PL is an awesome radio too. Its my 2nd choice, right after the 4PKS.

you guys did not help much for a newbe like me. I have a new HPI 5b that I need a radio for,,,as I dumped it in the pond yesterday and burnt my rx out. The stock radio had a delay on the throttle before the car would run anyway and I hated it.

I like to buy quality the first time,,and will want to use radio with other stuff maybe in the future.

I read that long article and did not understand any of it,,,,,,, I am a new guy who wants a really good radio for my 5b, with ability to expand later without buying 3 different radios as I learn.

one guy made me want a futaba and the next guy made me want a spektrum. I need to seperate the ford/chevy bull from the real facts,,but how? I don't know enough about the hobby to make a decision.

which has longest range? (very important to me,,on long airstrip)
which is nicest to use for HPI 5b?
which is multi truck capable?
will accept killer switch easy?

I like running the truck,,,maybe not wanting to learn the complicated parts of the hobby, just play with this truck and 1 more later. Most of you look too deep in the hobby for what I will do.

So what should a casual driver look for in a radio?

Virtually all are 5B Friendly, Multi-Truck and KillerB applicable - INCLUDING Spektrum - I use that.
For range, check out the thread on Futaba range testing (and similar on Spektrum).
I think the Spekky gets to 110m before glitching, which is reasonable, but not useful to you, on a runway.
The Futaba goes WAY beyond that.

Check the threads out first, ask more questions and then form your opinion - it's your money!!

Al.

How much money can you spend? If you want the best get a Futaba 4PKS.

I ordered a futaba 4pl. I decided $200 was enough for what I will do with it.

You are the killer bee guy? Which version do I buy for the 4pl? I live in ohio and work in dayton. Are you close?

on edit, i found your chart. I need V2. Do i need anything else to hook it up?

If you wish to kill the engine by Aux channel you'll need v1 or v2 using the power switch, Personally i like the v1

well im going to give you my take on it, don't believe everythign you hear. i bought a 4pks and installed it in my baja 2 days later my baja is no more due to a radio failure (which is why i haven't been on the forums ). in hindsight i wish i would have stayed with my speky which never failed in anything not even the baja.

You will always get 2 sides to a story, I have always used Futaba from day 1 and if I ever had a problem it was because of human error or bad driving/set up. Not trying to make a point as I use Futaba but with Spektrum module and receiver in both my 3VC and 3PK:rolleyes:

I decided a "mid cost" receiver should function good without being too complicated for a person who is "lightly" into the hobby. . All the bells and whistles of anything higher on the chain will be useless to me. I don't think I would be able to tell the difference since I have very little experience

I decided futaba because it looked nice in the pic,,,,,,,,:D

I was surprised that there are no opinions of "easy to use" and "easy to set up" and things like that,,,only brand loyalty seems to come thru in reading about futaba vs spektrum. The one thing that helped was the futaba seems to have more range. That was a welcome fact to hear.

On the killer thingy. I also bought a 4wd traxxas Summit which has a radio that I thought I would replace with the futaba. It has switches that lock in the front and rear differentials. I am thinking that will use up my other 2 channels on the 4pl,,,and I would not be able to use the V1 then?

Talk about fast! It was sitting on the porch when i got home! I day on a buy it now from fleabay. I have learned i will use v1 on the killer switch. I cannot use this radio on my summit since it is waterproof and i swim it,,so i guess the v1 is what i'll order unless you guys tell me different. Use will be my baja 5b.

I'm skeptical. You've hated Futaba for years but now you buy one and have a glitch. Sounds like a Spektrum story, not a high end Futaba. Got pics of car and radio? What's the details? Failsafe set? No kill switch?
