Hi guys :)

ok went with my MB after a major overhaul of fitting new bits etc..

I Also fitted a new head gasket, after a run i re-tightened the head bolts as they came loose a bit.

I didnt put any thread lock on the bolts! (yup i know not very clever!)

anyway not sure what to do now.. its a 2 bolt so would it be safe to take 1 bolt out, thread lock it & slap a spring washer on then put it back in & tighten it up, then do the same for other bolt.. OR should i take both bolts out @ same time & do them together & tighten them evenly again.. only prob doing this will i lose the seal of my gasket if i take the both bolts out @ same time :( ?

its a catch 22, cuz i know when we tighten head bolts we meant to do tighten each bolt a bit at a time so when it tightens its even. But to do this i would have to take out both bolts & im thinking then that i will lose my seal on head gasket :( ? im using a normal gasket with gasket sealant.

I don't wanna be fitting another head gasket as ive only just fitted this one & its fine with no leaks but i know my head bolts will come loose again! so i defo need to thread lock the bolts & throw on some spring washers :( ?

suggestions!

i think i would loosen both try my hardest not to break the seal take one out loctite it put that in loose so it just nips then do same on other one then nip them both up tight. as long as you don't break the seal by it twisting which it shouldn't if your carefull, and when undoing them both the one still on engine do it back up a tiny nip so it cant move anywhere but its not putting stress on mounting points,,you should be ok but let the loctite go off over night. it could have been a engine wrecker if you left it mate

aye taking both out @ same time defo seems the best option just gutta be careful i guess.

Yup defo could have been, i was gunna re-tighten the bolts anyway after a quick run as i know they would be a little loose after just fitting new gasket but i was a lil suprised how loose they were :( i retightened then just kept checking them every 5 mins or so to make sure they didnt come too loose again.

So yup i defo need to threadlock & slap a couple of spring washers on, you reckon that will be enough dude?

yeah should be,,i use red loctite on mine but it the cheap shite of ebay a little bit stronger than blue but not as strong as the better make loctite you can get,,sping washer can only help wont do any harm trying,,have a bash give them a check after its cooled down ive never had one come loose but im runing a 4 bolt now but same applys

aye gunna invest in a 4-bolt soon, had this mill for about 7 years now & done me proud so defo sticking wit Zenoah, prob gunna get the Zen 29 4-bolt & keep it stock like i have done with my 26 2-bolt :)

i only got my oddified 4 bolt cause it was on ebay for ages,i kept thinking about getting it then he dropped the price just as i found a crack under the exhaust port on my 2 bolt 29 ported,,,,it was on ebay for months at £200 odd then went down to £130 and a tenner postage so grabbed it quick,,,£140 for what turned out to be ians own engine he built for himself to use in onroads for the 2006 season,,,,the first thing i done when i got it stripped it down fitted some copper zero drag seals the piston loooked fairly new same with the ring,,,when new ian told me it ran just under 6hp and 3+nm of torques,i will only use zenoah and my fav is the 23cc's i love the way the rev,to the point they sound like its going to explode and with a good pipe they can hit @5hp easy all from a 23cc plus there dirt cheap as everybody thinks puting a bigger engine in is the way to go and sell them off truth is add a good pipe it will wake them up just as well

well, re-fitted bolts with spring washer, washer & blue threadlock! ..hopefully will do the trick :)

after i did them i realised i have some propper stud lock..

Save the effort.
Perhaps better to see how the first installation holds up before undoing again.

I use blue loctite and torque to factory specks. So far on 3 different 2 bolt motors I have not had one come loose yet.
