DO THIS. Remove your cars reciever. Gently. Look at where the antenna wire enters the rx case. Its a loose fit. This puts all of the stress from the antenna wire directly on the two solder connections. They WILL eventually fail -- the copper circut trace will break off the printed circut board. Most likley this will be the outer wire on the antenna- the shield- counter poise wire. If this happens, your radio will still bind up on the bench cause the tx and rx are so close. Its range will be limited however- if the antennas center wire connection on the p-c board breaks- you will be shi$ outta luck- The broken connections can move around in the rx and cause a total loss of control- no kill switch- no steering- no throttle. This happened to me last weekend. Enough about that. The solution is to remove the two rx case screws - pry apart the case on the antenns side, apply shoe goo on the 2 U shaped indentions where the antenna wire sets- then reassemble and let the glue dry. This puts all the stress on the glue area. instead of the fragle solder joints on the p-c board. DO THIS before you have a big time run away the way i did. Should have trained the damm dog to fetch the car before it hit a concrete retaining block @ WOT.
 
yes. still use the antenna tube thats on the radio box. slide the antenna wire up tru the tube.- The reciever case its self is where the trouble will occur, The hole in the little recievers case -where the antenna wire its self goes tru is the eventual problem- Its a loose fit. Its still a very good design. Just needs to be anchored at this point with shoe goo- I did this glue mod to all my recievers, and will do all future recivers before they are used. The newer fly-sky recievers have larger componets - Still little surface mount parts, but capable of more abuse- electricly speaking-- Yea, the blocking diode, resistors- ect-
 
Thats a great idea man. It might also work on the Gt3c power button. Some have had issues with the wire coming off. The uses for the goo just keeps grow'n. LOL

This is where to apply the glue- Silicone is too soft- Hot melt glue will not bond securely enough- I use Shoe Goo. I only have The Fly-sky brand, This could be the same issue on other brands for all i know. This could be worthy to also post on the HPI site also- They hammer as hard as we do--- Anyone knows how to re-post to other sites- you have my approval- go for it.
 
Yep my stock receiver just quite working, been back and forth with Redcat on it! Now need to call and talk to a tech! the receiver stopped working after about 4 hrs running. now they think maybe it was hooked up wrong? because it should not stop working, well I think that (should not stop working) :confused: is a good guess! Think it is time to up grade radio and receiver! Was gonna buy another mt pro for my son but think maybe I will wait. I mean these receivers have their problems. Not like they are expensive. Gonna have to look cause this problem seems the same as described. :mad:

I will do this mod if I have an issue. At 7 bucks a receiver there basically disposible. As long as I got a killswitch
 
I did the shoe goo to the stock redcat reciever too.- May have to use it one day-- Next time i go to the hobby shop i am going to ask if i can look at other brands of recievers-- the high dollar stuff- just for hecks and giggles. I would not even think about running any sort of r-c if the antenna wire is loose where it enters the recievers hole. cruzen for a bruzen!!
 
When I was using the GT3b, I ordered a 10 pack. LOL

Some of my factory receivers re-binded with the GT3b

If the solder joints break on the p-c board where the antenna wire mounts- and the antenna wire with its 2 exposed solder connections moves across the circut board- shorts out on just the right place, your kill swich- your fail safe- throttle, steering are instantly out of commsion- big time runaway.
 
Me Agan!! Let me explain a little more in depth why this simple mod is of paramount importance. On nearly if not all electronic devices you will see this--- rohs compliant. This means that the electric componets are soldered with lead free solder. Lead free solder melts-flows at several hundred more degrees than solder with lead. All printed circut boards have a really thin copper trace- this is the circut. This copper trace is bonded to a epoxy board. The higher heat required to solder the electric parts is really rough on the copper- epoxy matrix.- What happens now- is the solder joint stays bonded to the copper trace- The copper trace breaks off the epoxy board. soo- if the antenna wire solder connection holds but pulls off the copper trace from the epoxy board, there is a greater chance of this failure shorting something out because of a bigger area thats electrically conductive than if just the solder joint its self failing. Not trying to preach to you all- just saying- Man-- you would have to try reworking printed circuts- replaceing parts that have been wave bathed together with lead free solder- the darned copper trace debonds fron the epoxy board about the time the solder flows. #@%$.

i got my shoe goo in from killer rc along w/a couple other goodies. i am doing this tonight. thanks alfred. :)

i just did this to both my rx's. i put a drop on top & on bottm & maybe a drop more for more protection from corosion. thank very much fo this very helpful hint indeed. super easy to do as well.
