running a standard 23cc dyz in my baja had it allmost 8months and its never missed a beat, well untill this week while out bashing at deeside,it started holding back on top end power and spluttering ,low end and tickover its fine and will start 2nd pull ,have tweeked the settings every which way but still no joy, changed the plug cleaned the carb and still the same, help

Hi Pablo,
I suppose you can start with the gaskets - any leaks?
If the idle's smooth, I suppose it means the ring isn't broken - perhaps it's just losing compression - does compression go this quickly?
Al.

compression seems fine al,i was thinking maybe the coil could be breaking down under load but do,s that happen or do coils just stop working and thats that?????

Thats really confusing mate. I was so sure it was either carb settings or dirt in the carb.
It idles well doesn't it, and takes off well, but does not want to reach beyond the mid range rev band. Strange cos when it gets to that mid range rev band, it has that "slightly too rich" sound to it, but we tried all sorts of needle settings and it didnt really seem to change anything did it ?
Unfortunately I'm no engine expert (far from it!!) so I'm a bit stumped mate.

If it helps anyone at all, you can hear Pablos car briefly (the green car) in the second vid on page 2 of the "deeside 9th May" thread, it pops into the picture briefly at about 1:50 ish I think.

i was dying to give it a good kick at deeside, thats what happens when yea reach 40 mate well it has to me anyway

Try disconnecting your throttle servo & revving it by hand to eliminate a problem with your servo. When I got my new 2.4ghz set I banged my head trying to get it to go full throttle & it was the ATL setting on the tx doh!

Mine has had same symptoms and this weekend while trying to tune the bugger it dyed....

Needs new head and piston now....:(

Try a new ring mate.

yea been toying with a 29cc head kit, but paul,b who was at deeside on sunday was on his 2nd one after the 1st destroyed the head within hours, thing is tho mate it has,nt dyed it starts 2nd pull and runs well untill i give it some throttle, then it just sounds rich but its not the plug colour is ok, going to take the head off tommorow and a nose,

Thats exactly the same as mine mate, been running it for three weeks like it trying to get to the bottom of it....tried every thing, starts off ok then losses top end and gets worse the more you drive it.

I was looking at Stevos top end kits, seen 1 in action and its unbelievable how fast this thing is.

for the moment im going to transplant my MT lump into the Elcon till I get enough funds.:)

its one or the other, or a bit of both.

one is the ring is needing replaced. a bit of 2stroke oil will tell you if it is or not. just put 2 tablespoons in the cylinder and run it. if it runs good for a few minutes, then gets worse soon after, the ring is bad. the oil acts as a temp seal until it burns away.

the other is the bearings and oil seals are shot or going bad.

well the piston ,ring and cylinder are all fine. got a 23cc zenoa motor of my bro, so have took the 603 carb and the coil off it and fitted them to my dyz, if this don,t work i,ll have a little cry

any slop/play in your crank? except a bit of in/out. any up down or side to side play?

no play in the crank tim, but things have just got worse changed the coil and fitted a 603 carb, these were parts off a spare motor my bro, had that used to run very well, primed it two tugs on pull start and it fired up,low end is fine starts and ticks over good, but around mid range it hits a crazy bog and no amount of tuning will cure it, i had it out for 2hours and just got nowhere, just thinking of ripping the motor out and fitting a new 1.

Have you tried a new ring pab?

thats the next step mate, but i used to have scooters lambrettas and vespa,s and the motors were very simaler but just bigger in cc ,when they needed a re, ring they would be hard to start and would,nt tickover but my baja will tickover and starts with ease, and its still got good commpresion.

Sounds like it is starving for fuel. If it has good compression, there is no need to tear it down and re-ring.

How does it rev with the wheels off the ground?

I have not read anything on the 603, but a 668 set at 1.5 - H and 1.25 - L should work fine for starters. I have only tweaked my 668 no more that 1/16 on each needle.

yea mate it could be the fuel clunck in the tank thats blocked but i,am thinking more like its an air leak just re,sealed the 3 carb gaskets with clear silicone, oh and i,ve put the 618 carb back on the 603 was causing a major bogging problem maybe it was over jet,d going to give it a run tommorow so fingers crossed.
