Hello all. I’m getting back into 1/5 scale now that my son has gained interests and have a few questions hoping to be able to get me started in the correct direction.

I have a 1st Gen Losi5ive gas that has been sitting for years that I’d like to either freshen up (if worth it) or transform to a newer truck. If it’s possible to turn it into a 2.0 or worthy Short Course Truck maybe go that direction. If it could be turned into a buggy maybe go that direction. I just don’t know what all is different from the OG 5ive and the 2.0 and if it would even be worth upgrading. I always had issues with the Spektrum system that the Losi 5ive came with. That was one of the main reasons I quit messing with the truck. I have the newest Futaba 7 channel system and a new Sanwa M17 that can use with it now.

I also have a Kraken Vekta5 launch edition truck that I have a ton of upgrade parts for that will be building. It’s all still in the original box. I plan on using Futaba with it as of now.

I don’t even know what class the Vekta5 falls into as far as racing so that does have me concerned. I have been researching what all brands are having the most success racing and the Elcon and MCD vehicles really look nice so plan on getting one of those so will have enough for 3 people to race here at my house. I live out in the country with ample acreage to run these so will be able to put a simple track together using our tractor easily. I also have all the I-Lap timing system stuff so that makes it even more enjoyable. I have a bunch of I-Lap finish lines for multiple different scales and drones. Everything from DNano-1/5. RCP track for days with DNano and MiniZ style racing lol.

I’m pretty set on going with a 4wd buggy from Elcon or MCD so if turning the OG 5ive into a buggy seems like the better direction then that may be worthwhile but if the Vekta5 falls into the Short Course category then may be better decision to upgrade the 5 into best SC vehicle it can be???? I just don’t know what is possible with what I have basically and if anything I do will actually bring it up to a competitive level with the newer stuff.

Any and all input would be extremely helpful.

Happy New Year!

Thank you!

Looks like if I bought a 2.0 Chassis I’d be able to convert to a 2.0 with better motor, steering, and shocks while still using quite a bit of my parts.

Now the question becomes is it worth the hassle?

If I start upgrading parts on it maybe worth it from what I can gather but if keeping close to stock may not be worth it.

Is the steering, shocks, and motor fitment issues a large upgrade vs the OG?

After making that post it seems as if the Shocks are upgradable to 2.0 according to the sheet but I’ve read many people state they aren’t compatible. Why have I read that?

After researching it appears that you all may be right. Just running it as an OG and upgrading parts as needed looks to be the best option. By the time I buy a chassis and the parts it adds up to over 50% of a new 2.0. I told my son he can have it so just wanted to be sure I was giving him the best platform it was capable of while also not going overboard. He can bash/race it and learn to wrench on it when need be.

Thanks all!

I really want to realize the difference between an Elcon Fourtex and a MCD fully decked out but sadly that will have to wait. I’ll just have to eventually pick one and go from there. I’m leaning more and more towards the Elcon with its unique drivetrain though. Seems super easy to tune compared to others.
