Man I just cant seem to get a tank of gas through my new FG. First time out I flipped it and broke the wing mount, s--t happens-no big deal, didnt even finish a full tank. Second time out, clutch lining came off the shoe, well- it'll be alright I thought, just epoxy em back on and we're golden, no- not for this dog, got her out for third times a charm and both clutch linings came off!! So, back to the bench, I had bought a clutch for an extra to put in the toolbox, it was an HPI clutch, guess what? It doesn't work, the bolt holes are different sizes. So I got another clutch, filled it up again, took it out, made four or five passes, got balzzee, overshot the ditch and smoked a culvert pipe taking out the lower front wishbone, bending some screws, folding the roll bars, it just keeps on getting better. Come to find out, the wishbone I need isnt even in the country unless your talking about it beeing in a new kit. I even called a shop in Canada trying to get a nylon replacement for now, untill I get the replacement alloy from across the pond. They didnt have anything either. We put a few hours in beating on it yesterday (the A arm) and finally got it beat back into a shape resembling the A arm. I got it back on the car, everything lined up, bolted back up ok, measured out to be an 1/8'' out when squaring up the chassis/measurements. It tracks down the road good, hardly even noticeable, then,......... I roasted another "high quality" $20 clutch. STill have not put a full tank of gas through it..............

Maybe tomorrow I'll back my CHEVY over it, see how that goes.............

Born under a bad sign. I like that song ;)

Reminds me of a signature on a heli forum. Your first crash is like a teenage girlfriend's father. the sooner it's out of the way the better. You are just getting the crap out of the way early is all. Chin up

Take your wishbones to a local machine shop & have them knock you up some nice shiny alloy 1's. By the sound of it, that may be your quickest way and the cost will probably be more reasonable than you think :cool2:

your making the mistake of filling it up and cursing yourself i went through a stage of this take it out with hardly any fuel in bet it will run out thats what happend to me id take my car out fill it up start it bang somthing goes i had a spell of the shoe linnings coming off got that sorted then somthing else had the same tank of fuel for weeks then when i had nealy emptyed the tank trying to play it stayed working has been since touch wood any way i don't want another spell of bad luck like that i was that pissed off i started listing the thing on ebay i think i saw me as its bucked its ideas up now

Yes, its a 4x. Gear plate plugs? You lost me......
Ended up putting in an Elcon. Clutch issue seems to have gone away for now, the shoes on the new clutch are turning colors? I thought maybe just burning the paint off the inside of the bell. I took out a bearing when the liners came off, so I got that replaced too, she FINALLY got through a tank and a half before the rain came. Still bugs to work, what a long strange trip its been.....

stock gearing, some significant parasitic drag from the front to rear via the belt. Spacers in belt tensioner positioned correctly (no adjustment for more loose), tore it down today to put fast eddy bearings throughout, install the titanium plate on the clutch, check for further damage from running the junkyard lower wishbone, re-grease the diffs, and mostly check for drag on the driveline or something making contact somewhere etc. Rain all weekend, so test/tune sometime next week. Hopefully getting the bugs all out.
Anyone have a spare front lower wishbone they'd like to make a nice profit on??

got it out today and managed another tank and a half. Heres what all went wrong/fell off......
Lost a rear wheel during driving/nut too switched to nylon stainless nuts
Cracked the clear plastic aftermarket gear cover (gone 4ever)
Spun a wheel driver on the rear wheel, brake rotor got in between the driver and the rear upright- crammed in some dirt/goo but cleaned up with no real damage - went with red locktite (3rd time)
Lost a servo arm/screw- must have not used enough locktite on assembly switched to alum arms with new screws and plenty of locktite
Then lost the wheel driver on the opposite side! Red locktite for his a$$ too
Flipped it over and pinched/broke open the fuel line (return to tank) since it was under a little pressure it squirted all over the body inside and chassis

Does this seem excessive to anyone else??!!!!! All the while Johns running his 2x Stadium in circles around me while I cuss and throw stuff around trying to get back on the track.

The band-aid junk yard wishbone is holding up, a little deformed from some jumping- I found out today I'm looking at 3-4 weeks .............maybe
so hopefully it will survive another trip to the vise/anvil for another tune up!
At least I can tell you all the Pipe rules!! VictoryRC unfinished/unsilenced
HUGE power increase over stock FG tuning pipe. So loud it almost gives you a headache after awhile:stick:
I'm staying on it. Through persistance and determination we'll get the bugs out- or put the dam thing on ebay!!!!!
I also had to remove the rear cable brakes all together. They kept loading up with debris and causing the rear end to lock up. Probably why it turned those clutch shoes different colors. Going to try the single rotor set up on the rear shaft like the stadium if it'll fit............

I had not. THats a great idea though, I will be doing that if another one comes off. Today I was able to finally get three full tanks through it without a hitch. We're in the 5oz mix now, break in is over. Seems 99% of my issues were rear brake related. Since I removed the rear rotors/calipers I now have no issues with parasitic drag, a lot less build up on the rear drive shafts/uprights
and seems to run a little cooler. The clutch is holding up well with no more discoloration. The little bit of color change that had occurred burnt off for the most part.

I might have passed the bad luck gremlin on to Johnboy aka Fallen1. Mines running like a banshee with its a$$ on fire, starts first pull, basically rules, I am the 4x4grand wizard, its couldnt......oh sorry, I got a little off subject, John put his in the creek:nono: full submarine submersion1:no: THATZ WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU TRY TO RUN WITH THE 4x4GRANDWIZIARD BIIIATCHES:2guns:

bad times, mine broke on the second run too, rear wing mount and air filter snapped off, the roll cage seems a little fragile i think for me, would be good if there as an alloy one.

i thought they would be stronger than my 1/8 buggy i got rid of but i think the sheer weight of it just breaks whatever it lands on.

oh yeah!!!! truck was thirsty!!! so it took a drink.... in a kneedeep ditch... woo.f@#king woo!!! man what a mess!!! it looks like my big servos survived ,motors strong ....receiver is smoked looks like i might get off cheap besides the two days of tear down and cleaning

Besides a free lesson in physics, and some driving experience under the belt!!
Next time don't chase the 4x4 GRANDWIZARD!!!!!!!

how did you manage to snap the air filter off :scared:

took my newish marder out for first time couple days go, laurnched it off a big jump, making it land hard fliping 10 times 5ft in air. only knocked the samba pipe off. :clown: all it needed was the spring cliping back in.
the roll cages are pretty flimsy but normaly do there job well, and are cheap to replace, but man how i love the mk1 samba pipe :2guns: not a single dent in it, they are sold unlike the newer samba pipes
