Dusting the cobwebs off my fg marder and looking into a good servo for brake/throttle and steering. I've searched around the site and found many good options but have 1 question. Is there a point where you can have too much torque? Wondering if it could damage anything like the throttle lever on the motor.

If you don't set the end-points correctly, then the answer is probably YES.

If I were you, if you're thinking of replacing both, decide if you want to stay '6V' - NiMH / LiFe - or 2S LiPo 7.4V.

LiPo will give access to newer technology high voltage servos, generally indicated as 'HV'.

Many of us have opted to stay 6V and use LiFe - similar high power characteristcs as LiPo, but with much less fire risk - we're told.

Staying at 6V, throttle brake on a Marder could be sorted with a Savox 1256TG. A Hitec 7955 could be considered as well.

Steering has many options as well.
Largescale, I use Rhinos on my 18 kg all alloy FG MT - they handle it without problem. There is a HV Rhino option now.

So set the end-point to limit problems to the throttle bar on the carburettor.
Also, if you haven't got an alloy or carbon fibre servo / radio plate, ADD bracing to the servo mounting plate. If you don't, particularly with higher power servos, you will see the plate flexing!!

If you are taking power from the Rx (receiver) then another YES, you can overpower the Rx. There are servo by-pass kits.

Bottom line - you can never have too much power!!

Thanks for the reply Al. I already have a 2s lipo in there now. Just installed waiting on safe bag to charge it. So I want to go the 7.4v route...... Setting the end point is done on the transmitter? For give the noob question here, trying to soak up any info I can...... I think I'm gonna have to upgrade to a new servo tray cause I got some flex in there now with only a 200oz throttle/brake servo. Only trouble I see is fitting bigger servos. The plastic is easy to modify.

Will do Al. Thanks. I can't wait to be able to stop on a dime! Only reason I'm changing my steering servo is that it's analog and won't work with my Spektrum avc. Plus being waterproof is a bonus..... When ya gonna cross da pond and come bashing lol.

I installed that steering servo on my XB it works amazingly. Very tough and strong servo with pretty good speed as well. Even with the glitch buster that came with it still kinda glitches back and forth. Not sure what the issue is there, any ideas?

Are you using a Spektrum transmitter? IDK why they glitch. Seems to be an issue otherwise why would they sell them with a free glitch buster? I haven't pulled the trigger yet but will call Savox before I order for sure. I'll let you know what they say.

No not using Spektrum radio or receiver using stock Redcat. the glitch isn't enough to cause drivability issues it may be my stock battery which if I remember correct is nicad 6 volt. You won't be disappointed with the servo pull that trigger! It's the best one on the market that's not $500.00 lol

So I picked up a hs-7980th. Took a few hrs to file down my alloy tray but got it installed neatly. Power the sucker up and it's busted! Will freeze intermittently on it's return from full throttle or full brake. This ordering and waiting thing sucks! Still waiting on my head kit that was supposed to be here last week. I guess that's what I get by not ordering from ddm.

The servo is a beast by the way. Looks like I'm gonna have to order some alloy servo tray posts cause there is some major flex when applying full brake.

Got the servo situated and went to set up the linkages. Brand new set of collets came without screws! & the pack that did come with screws won't stay tight! Looks like I'm in for another week of down time if I can't find a lhs that has um.
