So just wondering what to expect with the gas 2.0 dbxl.
I am thinking of trading my Baja 5B for a lightly used 2.0

In the past I had a v1 and got frustrated with some issues and the underpowered motor.
I have fixed up my Baja and know all the pros and cons, so wondering if it is worth trading ?
What sort of things tend to break, or did they make it more bullet proof like the 5 ?
any input appreciated

The 2.0 dbxl isn't a crowd favorite for a reason and is still as equally frustrating as the 1.0. If I was you I wouldn't part with your 5b for that at all. Only way I'd take a 2.0 dbxl is if it was given to me or was extremely cheap.
thanks for that. That is exactly what I wanted to know.

Oh Boy.... I have one i hope that i don't run into issues.

@RC_FOOL for what the starting point is and how much it takes to make it "decent" isn't impressive. Also the lack of aftermarket support by the larger known brands makes you question how well it is from the start. Can't say I see any of them in any buggy class racing.

Ok Fair enough! I was curious as to what the group might think. It's good to hear from others especially about things i'm unsure of!
Thanks.

@jeepfreak1972 wow that over a 5ive b 😳, I don't blame you tho when I first started out I was looking at the v1 dbxl over a 5ive t, glad I bought the 5ive t.

@RC_FOOL a friend of mine owns a hobby shop and I would fix the gas rc's that came in and the dbxl's were always the problem children. Axle set screws backing out, center diff's leaking fluid with basically nothing left in them. Best thing I can tell you to do right off the bat is ditch those rims and tires and get some 5ive t ones. The rims break and the tires shred apart.

Thanks for the report!

When I fell down this 1/5 scale rabbit hole I started with a DBXL , Had the same problems with screws backing out and the all too familiar broken spindle. I like the truck mostly because of the look but it needed some help.
So move the Calander ahead, what do I do? I buy another one with a ton of upgrades already done. LOL ( ESP motor, wheels/tires , front and rear supports , front bulkhead , spindles , differentials x3 , pipe , air filter , outerwears.......probably missing something here )
It is certainly better but not perfect by any means. Some suspension changes have helped as well. It is not the best if the wheels leave the ground , no doubt it is nose heavy.
We run mostly on a small backyard track ( a very nice track !) and honestly it is not all that bad for what we are doing , the size is good and it runs well.
It seems to always be one of the toys that goes in the truck.

Like what Smokingwheel said... I bought a v2 DBXL when they first came out, thinking it was made by Losi, it will be as awesome as my v1 5t. Sadly it is not, but it does look good. I usually don't give up too quickly on anything so i did all the usual upgrades, diff and shock oil, replaced hubs and spindles, allumminum mounts and supports, ESP race ported 34, alot of shims on the outer axles to tighten it up and of corse loctite just about everything. Now for what it is, it's not to bad for the moderate beating i can give it. By no means is it close to a 5t, you definitely cant abuse it like one, doesn't handle like one, doesn't fly like one, cant beat on it like one. It definitely requires a different driving technique.
