The strip down has certainly uncovered some horrors. Having looked at the gears & layshaft brake I honestly don't know how this thing ran and stopped :scared: It has been neglected big time and any repairs have been botched.

the lad who was drivin it bud was only about 12 :D barrys grandson i think

arrr i recognise that car now ;) i know how that chassis got twisted, the lad was doin the gully jump at deeside and was nose divin the landins ;)

Thats the 1 mate - he is 10yrs old. Chassis straightened easy enough but there are loads of non-std fixings where the holes have been drilled & over sized nuts & bolts fitted. It was advertised as a tatty marder on the NW forum & is a nice project for me to get stuck into :D It will be spot on when Ive finished :w00t:

Not a big fan of that pipe. I have the same type and it was not near as good as the DDM one. Way better then stock but....

Could cut the body down like I did.

At least it will be an easy change of a head kit.

How does the motor run and look? Are you going to tear it down?

engine is a zenoah 23 ! and the young driver is mongydog's grandson Joe probably bent the chassis jumping at broughton that's the most he ever ran it !

sorry fella thought he was yours  tell you though he's a good lad and defo knows how to drive these large scales :lol:

Missus has arranged for some friends to come round so will have to see what happens. Not sure what time they are coming so I can let you know for definite by dinner tomorrow if thats any good??

Started putting the marder back together today using std plastic parts. The ally arms weren't in the best condition anyway and the plastic keeps the weight down :D Replaced most of the existing screws too cos they had seen better days - had to cut a few off on the tear down.

Re-used the ally A & B parts......

Ditched the existing radio tray - FREE TO A GOOD HOME :lol:

Back to stock plastic tray. Going to add the front supports to sort the flex.

This is where I am up to......

I put the fuel tank bracket on first cos in the absence of the roll cage it make a nice handle :p Added new bearings in the hubs all round as most were shot anyway. The steering servos are the existing Hitec 700BB's and there was no throttle servo so put in a Hitec 645mg.

OMG!! fook the marder! you have basset hounds!!!!!!!!

Ive got one! hes called Henry :D

They are called Bertie (tri-colour) aged 3 & George aged 10mths. George is a bit cross-eyed & looks well funny when he has his mischievous head on :lol:

Sorry to go off topic andy, i just love bassets :D

This is the layshaft brake :scared: :badair::badair:
Photo1667.webp

Its created that much heat everything was solid onto the shaft. Not sure if the brake disk being out of line has caused the blueing to the clutch bell??
Photo1675.webp

Couldnt move the brake square, spur gear carrier or even the layshaft gear :( Nearly resorted to cutting it off with the grinder but just managed to free the layshaft gear eventually then fought with the bearing in the engine mount & got that off too. Put the brake square in the vice & got that off after loads of swearing  then drifted the shaft through the gear carrier - what a feckin job that was!!
Cleaned all the parts up for re-installing but will be adding new bearings and a layshaft tuning brake.
