I have a 5b SS now and like it a lot but miss 4 wheel drive and when I see my way fit would like to get the RR V4 Competition. I use to race 1/8 buggies and 4 wheel drive handles so much better then 2 wheel drive. Been doing some research and this looks like about the best deal for the money.

Are there any up grades you recommend or is it a fairly stable platform? I have been looking at some of the parts and up grades. Does it come with big bore shocks or is this something that needs to be up graded? I notice it does not come with a center dif is this something else that needs to be up graded? All my 1/8 scales had center diff. I have seen where some recommend the Alloy Engine Carrier Plate is this a necessary up grade?

It uses dual steering servos does it take large scale servos or standard size? I think large scale. Do you have to run dual servos? I have 4 engines so I would get it with out an engine so save on a little money. Is this all ready built of come as a kit? If it comes some what assembled do the do a good job at the factory or is it like so many others where you need to redo it and make sure all the metal to metal fasteners have loctite on them?

Any recommendations and input will greatly be appreciated. THANKS!

I know that most of the guys who race them in the UK are running them pretty much out of the box. They add a samba pipe, a better air filter and most use 3 Rhinos.
Engine - I'm not 100% sure but with the evo the engine was machined underneath in order not to foul the drive shaft so this may be the case with the V4.

If you have a look at the rapid racing southwest web site, Jason has moddified a set of Hormann shocks to suit the V4 and by all accounts, they're very good.

Hope this helps.

Mike

p.s if you log on to team5hite.com you could pm Dave "Roverman" or Jason "evopower" as they're the better MCD drivers in the UK

I really like the Rhino steering servo I have in my 5b but they are no longer available or at least in the US. I am guessing this comes with a pipe and wonder how well the stock pipe works. I run a CPI on my 5b and like it better then any other pipe I have run. CPI makes a pipe for the RR V4.
Thanks for the input and please keep it coming.

the 5755 hitec is a rhino digi4, just with a black case, 30bucks cheaper than they used to be with a red case.

All most as the specifications are a little different. The 5755 according to the listed specifications is slower.
Thanks

Speed of the Rhino digi 4 on six volts is .10 on the 5755 on 6 volts is .15. To me the faster the better particularly if you are racing.

The RRv4 does not come with a pipe or any type of exhaust at all. I run a CPI side pipe on mine, and it is good, but I have heard a few guys from Europe say that the Samba pipe is better.

They are pretty solid out of the box, but if you are going to race it, I would recommend getting the aluminum gear carrier, the stock carrier is known to melt in race conditions. Other upgrades I would recommend are the aluminum center diff holder, and aluminum top plates as they make it more solid with less chassis flex. If you want to order from Europe, there are some steering stiffeners the make the steering more predictable and accurate (https://www.kingcobradistribution.c...4-steering-servo-stiffener&catid=37:frontpage). I have put on the CAT5 hubs on mine so I can use the HPI wheel and tire combos I already have. The 5B tires are a little small for the RR, and the 5T tires are just a bit taller, but still work well.

I have the Hitec 5755 servos in mine and they do perform well. Only the most experienced and advanced racers would be able to tell the difference in performance between the 5755 and the Rhino servos, and yes, I do have both servos here and have had them hooked up to one receiver with a splitter, and the difference is minimal.

46u, have fun if you get one, they perform very well!

I have been looking on Large Scale RC web site as that is the only place in the US I can find MCD. I all so meet Troy and John and really like them. They have this model as a ready to run as well as with or with out motor, servos, battery and radio. If they offer it in RTR it has to come with a pipe. Might just be a CY can exhaust. The RTR price difference is $380 difference.
1 - DX3E Radio
2 - 5755MG Steering Servos
1 - 755MG Throttle and Brake Servo
1 - 3000 MAH Battery Pack
1 - On/Off Switch
But does not say anything about a pipe but if it is RTR it has to have a pipe. Like I said might just be a CY can exhaust. Will email them and ask.
I do not want the radio as I have a good one or a motor as I have 4 of them. With out the motor it will save me $100.

Have you ever run the rear CPI pipe or know any one that has? I would love to get back to racing but the closes large scale track to me is at least 400 miles one way. If it where not for my situation I do not have a problem traveling to race. So for not it will only be bashing.
Thanks for advice and input.

More questions. I am looking at the competition model and is says
This is what it comes with the sport does not. Is any of this parts that have been recommended mainly the ones in red. Difference between the sport and competition the way I would like to get it is $175 which I think is worth it. What do you think?
Alloy Shock Body
Alloy Shock Fork
Machined Hinge Pins
Front-Rear Anti Roll Bars
Servo Savers with Ball Bearings
Front CVD Drive Shafts
Hardened CV Drive Shafts
Hexagonal Drive Cups
Hexagonal Dif. Outputs
Alloy Central Dif. Holder
All Steel Transmission Gears
Steel Gear Drive Block
Double Disk Brakes

I have not run the CPI rear pipe. I chose the side pipe since it is well protected, but if I were to try another CPI pipe for the rrv4, it would be the short rear pipe. The items/upgrades in red are not what I recommended. The sport uses plastic blocks in between the gears, instead of steel blocks. The Aluminum gear plate is what holds the gears and the gear blocks go in between the the gears. I got the comp version as I thought the upgrades were worth it. I did not order mine RTR as I already had the electrics and I ordered an engine from Dogpile racing. If you need the servos, then you might want to order it rtr, but just remember, you might choose better pieces to install than what they would include in the rtr.

I have 4 engines, radio with RX, 1 Rhino Digi 4 servo and a RX battery pack. The main thing I do not have is steering servos.
Thanks all!

Tyr Kingcobra, they have Rhinos in stock.

Do you have a link? Are they in the US. I do not have a problem ordering from over seas if need be. I really like the Rhino Digi 4 in my HPI 5b SS and have one new spare. I got these before they where discontinued in the US. I am running a Team Associated throttle brake DS1015 servo same thing as an Ace.
Thanks

KingCobraRacing is over in the UK. Here is the link to the Rhino...https://www.kingcobradistribution.co.uk/latest/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=191

Wish my situation was not what it is as on US eBay last week a new Rhino Digi 4 in the box sold for $80. But I have always been a day late and a dollar short. LOL

I'm running a version 2 V4 comp with CPI side pipe. Went down the route of the Samba 4 power which everyone in the UK recommends, a number of things you should consider before buying a Samba...

1. it is not deisgned for the V4
2. the price is high the quality is low.
3. the finish on mine came off in my hand after a few runs.
4. not being designed for the V4 means it takes some time to heat protect parts of your car like the radio box, underside of shell, the plastic roll cage support behind engine and the fuel tank!!!!!!
5. having said all this it does make good power but on my engine it was only marginally better than the CPI side pipe which is cheaper (even after import costs for me in the UK), better made and fits perfectly.

The Hitec servo's (5755) are very good but are being replaced by the 5765. The Rhino's are good but are not dust or water proof like the Hitec and cost more!!!!
