Hi guys!

ok ive been wanting a modded engine for a while now for my DBXL 2.0 which is mostly alloy so on the heavy side, i want more punch on the low end, mid to high end is fine but low end it does struggle off the mark. It currently has the stock zen 320 and ive tried numerous options including:

Different pipes (Olimat/Bartelone, 9k Clutch, Different Gearing, Modded Carb etc) but still the low end is lacking, so i had my eyes set on the Taylor 35 V2, which was meant to be released a few months ago, but ive spoke to mike during this time and the delays are due to parts etc, and again its now been put back for the 3rd time until end of next month, at least!

So ive decided to pass on the v2 as no doubt it will be delayed again! so Ive been looking at other options:

OBR Full mod top end kit: https://oneillbrothers.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=61&product_id=84
OBR Full Mod SS complete engine: https://oneillbrothers.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=59&product_id=60
AKILL 32cc V3 Reed Case https://akillracing.com/en-gb/produ...23638&pr_ref_pid=8192019923254&pr_seq=uniform

and then there is this: https://akillracing.com/en-gb/products/akill-engine-v3?variant=45123389489462 which is pretty expensive but to me if it means spenging a little extra than i what i was planning i don't mind as long its worth it!? I don't know much aout these AKILL engines so are they worth it or are they... meh!

So, there are a few options and I'm thinking maybe get the OBR Top end kit for my stock zen 32 for time being, then when the Taylor 35 V2 is released i can get that. Or don't bother with the Taylor V2 and go straight for either OBR SS full mod or AKILL 32 Reed V3 complete engine?

Also is there much difference between the 32cc & 34cc options as they are same price, will the 34 fit in my DBXL 2.0?

What would you guys suggest? Is the top end kit worth it? will i notice much difference in the performance of my current stock zen32 in terms of power/low end torque as thats my aim!?

Or should i just forget the top end kit and go for one of the complete engines, which atm I'm leaning towards the OBR SS full mod...even though recently ive heard of people slating OBR engine saying they are not what they claim to be in terms of power etc!?

Cheers!

Just grab an esp top end or get the stroker kit and save your money. Even a fully alloy dibby isn't as heavy as a half upgraded 5ive t or vekta. Both pull the 32 and 34 cc versions pull them around very well, without going broke and killing the drive train.

cheers buddy!

This one? https://www.rcmodelz.co.uk/engines/...-esp-modified-for-2mm-stroker-crankshaft.html Also it says:

"fits Zenoah G320RC engine (with +2mm stroker crankshaft installed - part dd404b - only. Does NOT fit earlier Zenoah RC models!
Requires the +2mm stroker crankshaft (DDM part number dd404b)"

So id have to buy the 2mm stroke crankshaft also?

What about this kit: https://oneillbrothers.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=61&product_id=84 ?
also, would this be a better kit, as it has everything incl the 2mm stroker etc?

well, after more research & going by what others have said on here! ..this is what ive gone for & just ordered it.....

https://www.ddmracing.com/ESP-Ported-Zenoah-G340RC-34.02cc-4-Bolt-Engine

I chose the LOSI DBXL / 5ive Clutch option which i assume is correct! silly question i know but it isnt too clear as mine is the 2.0!?

I was going to buy the top end kit but to be honest i will use my G320 in a 2WD build, wonder if it will fit my FG in building!?

Wait for taylor 35cc mate

Why? So far it's been nothing but empty promises and delays. the v1 is an expensive turd. I'd rather have something economical that has proven results in a lighter rig. The esp kits have a proven track record and are very affordable.

If you want to keep the stock engine as a complete spare that is the way to go.

i was going to, but was meant to be released about 3 months ago, then he said "next month" now he says "next month" again and no doubt will say "next month" again lol, so give up waiting! ...so did more research on other engines & the ESP is up there so went for this :)

i i may sell it & put funds towards a new zen 290 for my FG im building! not sure yet!

I ran nothing but esp engines and they were fantastic and more than enough power with no gimmicks. The 2mm crank is to turn the 32cc into a 34cc, in reality and how it works is +1mm of stroke in each direction which is where the +2mm comes from. The case needs to be modified for the added throw in the rod but only by 1mm which is minimal. When I go from 32cc to 34cc I always buy the modded case bundle as its just easier to pay to know its done right. You do not need to buy a whole engine as you just migrate all of your stuff over and its a simple process to put the engine together. At the end of the day what you choose and what is suggested is preference and opinion.

What’s your budget?
around £600 buddy

...EDIT! actually i lied, my budget is a big fat ZERO, its always a ZERO!! haha, but needs must etc \o/

yeh i was looking at that kit but wasnt sure as never done a total rebuild before and didnt wanna mess it up, most ive done is change head gasket & piston ring.

@tizdaz I have confidence in your ability to assemble it. Remember a good in-lb torque wrench or your metric equivalent and use all NEW gaskets.
at least someone does then! lol :D

But, yeh will have a think, the issue with my current zenoah G320 is ive rounded one of the bolts that holds the clutch on! so im guessing i would need to be able to take this off to do the transplant if i bought that kit?

Or you can leave the bolt and just buy another clutch holder and a new bolt, your not going to be using anything in the crankcase other than the clutch holder and flywheel. Have any correct pictures of the bolt in question so we can help you better.

hmm,

on DDM website it stated that the engine was in stock, so i ordered, only to receive message few days later to say it is out of stock! ..they also said the the clutch housing are out of stock also, yet website says in stock, one thing that really is annoying, is when websites state that items are in stock, so you place order and then told not in stock!!

& they seems to take a while to reply to emails.

Is this something DDM tend to do? I did order a pipe from them not long ago with no issues to be honest, but this time around it seems communication is terrible & saying items in stock, when they are not, isnt good!!

They said that the engines "should" be back in stock earliest end of next week, so its not next week but the week after minimum!? Jusy wish online retailers would update there website or employ someone to do that if they are too buzy, will save alot of headaches for the customer!!

im in 2 minds now weather just to cancel the whole order & go elsewhere as no idea really when the engine will be back in stock as they are not very clear on that!

Normally they are pretty transparent with stock levels on the website. They are also, usually pretty good at responding to emails and calls. Can be frustrating at times, but not normal for them to drop the ball on such things.

Ddm is perfectly fine. Do not drag them through the dirt please. Us in the states have zero issues.. it happens..
Not dragging them through the dirt, as i did state that last order was no issues & was good service, i was asking if this is usual that they don't really respond to emails/query's in a timely manner etc. But that aside, they should not be listing items in stock, when they are not as it's misleading & frustrating to the buyer, especially if the part ordered was something you needed urgently!

I get it man, been there as well with them. I order alot of overnite stuff and it's always been on time. As for the emails I can't say I had an issue there but being in the same country as them calling and getting someone on the phone is the issue here. I hope they make good on it which I know they are a good company.

yeah im sure it will come good, like i say, last order was for the pipe & service was spot-on 10/10 to be fair, delivery was fast (around 1 week, which is excellent as i live inUK!). Im just hoping that its in stock by end of next week, if not its no biggy! At least it will be with me soonish instead of broken promises from Taylor RC!! ;)
