The poster putty lasted about 30 min now the diff is "Open" again... If I have to, I will pack it full of 2 part epoxy putty. AKA. Plumbers putty, like you see in the auto parts store with a penny jammed in it. A putty version of jb weld..
 
Hey Trip...try the wheel bearing grease first..see what ya think ..before the putty...
I think you will find the putty will be hard..ya need a little give in there.....

I heard someone on here used plumbers puddy, you know , the stuff you put on sink drains and stuff. They said it worked - And cheap. Soft so you can get it full.
I know when I've seen photos of people using silly putty that they cut it up i small bits and then install it.
